K1 WGP Final, a bit stale?

Now this may just be me, but I feel that the 2007
K1 WGP final wasn't fantastic. I definitely
enjoyed some of the fights but overall it
didn't get me excited. I think the main reason
I felt like this was the same fighters as always
were in the finals and it finished with the same
champion as the previous two years. K1 has a
history of fighters winning the tournament again
and again. I don't think this a bad thing. In
k1's 14 year history 3 fighters have won the
tournament 3 times or more and only 7 fighters have
won it. I'm not denying that Schilt, Hoost and
Aerts are great fighters, just that they need more
great opponents. K1 should recruit more talented young fighters. I do love the old guys but lets be honest, we all knew Semmy was going to win this year. It would be nice if K1 was more competitive. There is a new competition set up recently to rival K1. I don't know much about it yet. I think if K1 wants to maintain its popularity against this new competition it needs to spice things up a bit! For example, fighters like Gary Goodridge should be dropped. I've heard in this new competition they have different weight divisions than K1. So big fighters don't end up fighting way smaller guys, which is lets face it, a bit unfair.
Ignashov has signed on with this new competition as has Kaoklai. Do you guys know anything about the new competition?
I'd be interested to hear any of your thoughts on the final and how you think K1 should proceed in the future. I think they should try out some new things.

thats some info from this site about the "competetion" to K-1 called KO worldseries.
When it comes to the final GP07, these are my thoughts.
It wasent the best finals ever, it was an ok event with some okay fights, one or two great fights and one or two rather boring fights. I think the major reason for this is the same thing that you mentiond Feilidh, it was the same fighters and there where no suprises.
But my overall impression of the final GP is still possetiv, both Glaube and JLB shoved that Semmy can be put under pressure, and with some luck Glaube would have KO`d Semmy today.
Badr vs Remy is already a classic fight and i think that Badr should have won the fight, and he will be really dangerous next year. If he puts on some more weight and improves his accuraty a little more he might be able to challenge Schilt next year.
And also when it comes to new fighter in the final GP, i think that next year we might see fighters like, magomed, Melvin and Zabit in the finals, so i do belive that new blood is comming.

I have only watched the remy vs badr fight so far,
and I agree he should have won that fight, or at
least it should have been a draw. This year and
last were not that great I agree. Some good fights,
but there was zero excitement and tension. Final 16
was more exciting overall this year, it had more
surprises. Yeah K-1 needs new blood fast. Semmy winning 3 yrs in a row (and beating peter aerts and JLB in the same night, twice...) isn't good for K-1. Semmy has skill, but a lot of people still see him as a giant/freak who is just too big for most fighters to handle, and wins by default. K-1 is not going to draw new fans if Semmy is the poster boy for K-1.

Anyone know if JLB is badly hurt from the injury in
the fight vs. Schilt?

This time the injury is a smaller one and Jerome
will be able to resume training very soon. Jerome
wanted to continue fighting but his corner had to
put his health first. For your information, Jerome had surgery on his ACL and meniscus on his right knee just 8 months ago. / Information from JLB Official Website

Man, although I'm not JLB fan, he impressed me
so much against Choi and in the first round against
Schilt, hope he is ok and we will see him in such a
great form once again.Similar with Aerts, beautiful performance, ruined by injury ;/.
I don't mind the same fighters participating in finals again and again. In K-1 Max there is even more persistent team of finalists, and it's exciting anyway. In heavyweight it all comes down to Schilt winning the whole thing in the end.
