Description

Melvin "No Mercy" Manhoef (born May 11, 1976) is a professional Muay Thai kickboxer and mixed martial artist, trained by Mike Passenier and fighting out of Mike's Gym from Amsterdam, Netherlands. He's a Cage Rage Light Heavyweight World Champion and is famous for his brutal and powerful fighting style.

Biography & Career

Manhoef was born in Paramaribo, Suriname, he was 3 years old when his family moved to Rotterdam. Melvin was involved in soccer during his youth, and was introduced to muay thai by his older brother Moreno. He joined Choku Gym in Zaandam and started training. At 18, he had his first fight, which he won by decision. After a few injuries and a rocky start as a A-class fighter, he took few years off from fighting. He made his comeback in September 2001, now part of Chakuriki Gym, in Amsterdam. He made his K-1 debut against Remy Bonjasky in K-1 Holland GP 2002 in Arnhem, Netherlands. Melvin lost the fight by unanimous decision.

In 2004, Melvin Manhoef entered the Cage Rage Championships in London. By winning over Fabio Piamonte he became the World Champion. After successfully defending his title for almost two years, he re-entered the K-1 Fighting circuit's, MMA affiliate Hero's in 2006. He won his first fight at Hero's 4 against Shungo Oyama by technical knockout in first round.

At Dynamite!!2008, Melvin fought Mark Hunt as a replacement for Jerome Le Baner on a short notice. Regardless of the size disadventage, he nocked out Hunt in 18 seconds. It was the first time Hunt was finished due to punches.

He fought former WEC middleweight champion Paulo Filho on July 20, 2009 at DREAM.10.[3]. Despite early success on the feet with his striking offensive, Manhoef was taken down and submitted via armbar in the first round.

Manhoef recently signed a multi-year fight contract with Strikeforce[4].

Manhoef made his debut for the organization against Robbie Lawler on January 30, 2010 at Strikeforce: Miami. Despite a strong start, he was knocked out at 3:33 in the first round.

The best K-1 community online!

The focus is on building a community that offers more to the users than any other K-1 website. The focus is also on that the community should be totally user driven, with the users as main writers of content. Who would for example write a better fight report than a fan who actually was at the fight? Or who could write a more interesting fighter profile than the fan who loves and really knows about a fighter? We believe that this approach will lead to that fansofk1.com has the most interesting K-1 information.
