Badr "The Golden Boy" Hari (born December 8, 1984) is one of the biggest talents in the Heavyweight kickboxing. After making his name in the Dutch rings, he was signed by K-1 and in his k-1 debut he knocked out Stefan Leko with a vicious round kick to the head in a reserve fight at the K-1 World Grand Prix 2005.

Badr Hari started to train kickboxing at the age of seven under the guidance of former World Champion Mousid Akamrane. As a teenager he trained under Mohammed Ait Hassou at Sitan Gym. When Sitan Gym moved from Amsterdam to Rotterdam Badr switched over to the world famous Chakuriki gym with Thom Harinck. Under Harinck Hari developed himself as one of the greatest talents of The Netherlands. Harinck even stated that "Hari had more talent than Peter Aerts and Branko Cikatic together".

Hari suffered only one loss while being trained by Thom Harinck: in 2003 he replaced Melvin Manhoef against the K-1 Superstar Alexey Ignashov on a few days notice. Hari, who was outweighed by more than 18 KGs, did fairly well but was knocked out in the third round by a punch on the plexus. Nevertheless Hari won a lot of respect by stepping up at such an opponent under these circumstances.

Other notable wins at that time were Errol Paris, Antoni Hardonck, Aziz Katthou and Gary Turner. In January 2005 Hari left the Chakuriki gym to sign a contract with promotor Simon Rutz and became a fighter in the It's Showtime team. After a few months of training at Amsterdam's famous Mejiro Gym he returned to Thom Harinck but left him again after a few weeks. Badr Hari is currently coached by Mike Passenier of Mike's Gym who also trains Joeri "The Shark" Mes, Bjorn "The Rock" Breggy and "Marvellous" Melvin Manhoef.

Hari, who is infamous for his long entrances to the ring and his big mouth, was matched against Stefan Leko for the It's Showtime event later that year. Leko was on a dead track, losing all his fights under MMA rules with the Pride organisation. For Hari it was a big opportunity to show his strength and try to make it into K-1 circuit. The former K-1 superstar Leko also saw an opportunity to make his K-1 comeback. The fight was being hyped for several months along with a lot of trash talking. Leko, was extremely confident saying it wouldnt last long.

Before the actual fight started, Hari irritated his opponent with his trademark entrance. His entrance lasted longer than the fight itself. After an aggressive start, Badr Hari was winded by a spinning back kick to the liver, Stefan Leko also looked to be spitting on Hari after the fight was over while Hari was on the floor.

Hari got his chance for revenge. Manager Simon Rutz got him a deal with K-1 to fight at the K-1 World Grand Prix 2005 as a reserve fighter against Stefan Leko. Hari didn't seem to have lost his confidence and got his ultimate revenge. He knocked out Leko by a high spinning back kick to the jaw.

Although it seemed Leko and Hari had already created bad blood and an instant classic rivalry, Hari helped his opponent up and escorted the dazed German to the corner. Hari made himself a name that night with one of the scariest knockouts of that year.

While being scheduled for the K-1 World Grand Prix 2006 in Holland on May 13th 2006, Hari was a last minute replacement for the K-1 World Grand Prix 2006 in New-Zealand. His opponent in the first round was Australian Peter "The Chief" Graham. During the press-conference Hari once again showed his bad boy image by mocking and insulting Graham and later on even started a brawl. The next day Graham answered this lack of respect with a spectacular knockout. In the last ticking seconds of the last round Graham catched him with his trademark, "the rolling thunder". Hari broke his jaw on multiple places.

After receiving the most votes by fight fans all over the world, Badr Hari was offered a wildcard at K-1 World GP Final Elimination 2006 against a young Russian kickboxer Ruslan Karaev. He lost the fight by 1 Round KO by a controversial referee stoppage. After the fight Hari lost control and started to throw insults at Karaev. When he was escorted backstage, Hari immediatley trashed his dressing room.

He fought on undercard at the K-1 World GP 2006 Finals at the Tokyo Dome against Paul Slowinski and won the fight by unanimous decision.

Badr Hari got his revenge on Ruslan Karaev as well. After receiving an 8 count after a hook from Karaev, Karaev ran forward with the intention of finishing the job. However, he was knocked out cold by Badr Hari who qualified himself for a K-1 world title fight later this year, which he won against Yusuke Fujimoto. Badr was scheduled to fight again on August 5th, 2007 at the K-1 World GP 2007 in Hong Kong, in a rematch against Peter Graham, which he won on points in the final round.

On September 29, 2007 at the K-1 World GP 2007 Final Elimination Badr Hari beat the winner of K-1 World GP 2007 in seoul, Doug Viney by second round KO.

On September 27, 2008 in K-1 World GP 2008 Final 16 Hari defeated Hong Man Choi by TKO and qualified for K-1 World GP 2008 Final, held on December 6, 2008 in Japan. Hari defeated Peter Aerts in quarterfinals and Errol Zimmerman in semis and made it to the finals, where he met Remy Bonjasky. In the second round Hari was issued a yellow card for his repeated foul punches and stomping while his opponent was down. After the five-minute recovery time elapsed, the doctor reported Bonjasky was seeing double and could not continue. Hari was issued a red card by referee Nobuaki Kakuda and Bonjasky was declared the K-1 World GP 2008 champion.[6]

Badr was not suspended for his actions, but K-1 stripped him of his heavyweight title, he was not paid for his participation, and it looks like K-1 will be modifying the rules to allow for suspensions in the future.

Shortly after, on K-1's New Year's Dinamite show Badr Hari faced MMA Heavyweight Alistair Overeem in a K-1 rules match. Hari lost the fight by a left hook KO in the first round. Part of the agreement was that the two would meet again in 2009, but this time under MMA rules. However, this fight has not yet been confirmed.

Hari's first fight in 2009 was against Frederic Sinistra who was not well known at this point and won again by 1st round knockout with his trademark right hand.

In May Hari fought Semmy Schilt in a long-awaited bout for the newly introduced It's Showtime World Heavyweight title. Hari came out very aggressively and knocked Schilt down twice in the first round. The fight was stopped after the second knockdown and Hari took the heavyweight title in 42 seconds.

At the K-1 World Grand Prix 2009 Final 16 Hari again used his trademark right cross to score a first round knockout over Zabit Samedov.

At the selection for the K-1 World Grand Prix 2009 Final Hari chose to fight Ruslan Karaev for the third time. Hari progressed through the tournament to the finals, with 2 First round Knockout wins over Karaev and Alistair Overeem but lost a rematch to Semmy Schilt in the first round.

I saw that K-1 fighter Jorgen Kruth had said this: Hari is, in spite of everything a B-level fighter that's matched way too high level for himself. And we can see that in all his knockout losses. Bambi on ice? His win against Leko was probably more luck than anything, but it can be like that in fighting. Like I said, he's probably in K-1 only because of Simon Rutz made a deal with Japan.

Actually it wasn't my opinion, it was just something K-1 fighter Jörgen Kruth had said.

Badr Hari is tempered, but great fighter. In my opinion he still has to mature, but when he does, it's going to be non-stop action. Not that it isn't allready hehe :)
Can't wait to see more from him in the future!

Surprisingly technical, for his warm blood, that is; he's a true K-1 warrior, with real nice leg skills. However, I agree with Dennis, his fight against Leko really showed some distance left between Hari's performance and a top champion's

Kruth is just jealous!! And ugly! lol....
I agree totatlly with Nejc: Once Hari matures, he will be very dangerous...even more than he already is.
And the KO against Leko....c'mon, he just knew when to make that back kick....great KO, not just luck!

I think Jörgens statement has been proven wrong, i would actuallt love to see a fight beetween Jörgen Kruth And Badr Hari, it would probably be an instant classic.

About Badr i think that he ( if he wants to ) can become the future of K-1,, masssive massssiveee TALENT, he has the technic and power to beat any opponent, he just needs to learn to keep his head cool.

I am with you all the way Daniel! great fighter Badr...definetely one of my favorites!
I think a fight between Kruth and Badr would result in a old school, very hard and tough muay thai fight.

No no Dennis, you see it totally wrong! First of all how can you say that Badr is matched way too high and talking about a B level fighter ??? Badr has proven more than once that he belongs there and not only there but a future K-1 CHAMP. You're talking about it like they gave him that spot well you're WRONG! Till now they gave him nothing but stole from him, like the match against Raymond Bonjasky. The super high round kick that knocked Leko the fuck out, was well placed and was absolutely no luck! Several video's shows this .....look good and you wil see that he first looks before making the kick. Everybody can see it only you can't?! Conclusion: YOU call a K-1 CHAMPION a B level fighter?! .... well than the whole K-1 B level !! And if you say that it's YOURE opinion ..... than think twice if before placing it. Cus you sound very stupid and knows shit about the sport. Dennis either you hate Badr (cus he is a PROUD MOROCCAN) or you're blind, or just stupid either way you should not give B level comments here.I think that you're one of the guys that said that Mike Tyson was also a B fighter. Peace all .... and forgive my temper cus I can't stand peeps that push theire mouth so far!

@ Ma: As a white dude and as a fan of hari I think your comment shows an amazing level of intellectual retardation... forgive me for being blunt:)

Jorgen Kruth and other dutch fans obviously have a problem with hari since he's not wearing the dutch colors and that's understandable, it's giving him a lot of enemies but I hope they can get past it, for the sake of the sport and all the fans.

Hey Daniel,

Do you really think that Hari will become the future of K1 if he keeps his head cool. I dont know, I think that if there stands up another equal-talented fighter, Badr really got a disadvantage due to his weak chin.
But for now I think he can even knock out Sem if he in fully concentrated.

@sirzake i agree with you . and i think nabil hit the point and i agrree with what he said . but if hari try to improve his defence he will be a huge champion. i think hari work just his attack and forget about defence . in my opinion hari should change the trainers . and joing golden glory of semmy shilt.

Wow I haven't red this part of the site yet, but what a great miscommunication a few post back by 'MA'. With all due respect, it was Kruth who said those things and Dennis merely posted it. No need for some ungrounded racial discussion here, try to keep it down for this forum sake.

I do wonder what Kruth thinks of him now. Maybe a matchup would be interesting with these words in mind.

btw. Sirzake: why would Kruth have a problem with Hari not wearing the Dutch flag? Or did I misinterpretet the text?

Let's hope Hari can fight clean and he is a true candidate for a K1 title the upcoming years.

@Nabil Kania
if you refer to his fight with Overeem.
that isn't a good argument. Overeem weighs alot and has alot of power in his punches.
Badr Hari took punches from other fighters without falling down.
If you practice the sport you will see that even a wide swing can knock someone down if it's well placed.

As I am new around here I took a tour in the site, and I landed finally here :D

First of all what Jorgen Kruth said is his opinion weather we like it or not, weather we agree with it or disagree its his opinion and we must respect it (I love the freedom of speech).

Back to Badr, for me he has massively offensive techniques, tactics, swift legs, punch power, and he is very very very aggressive.

His weakness comes from his aggressiveness!! Because of that he loses lots of time control of temper and concentration towards the opponent. All this opens holes in his defense style and makes it breakable :(

I think he fights based on the rule:
The more offensive you be, the more defended you are !!!

Thats what I can add here, and thanks to the FoK-1 site.

hee Daniel please read my post again.

and now about badr. Well I think he is by far the most talented fighter there is. His defense is absolutely great as well as his offense. Last 2 years he was focussed on a first round KO so he was of course more offensive, but generally speaking he has proven to know how to win on points and fight defensively.
If he gives all he got he will win almost every fight in his carreer and can even become a multiple K1 WGP Champion. However, if we want to for see his future we have to look at his incentives. Why does he fight train etc?
We have seen that Badr cares most about his fans. He wants to prove that he is the best and wants to receive credit and respect from the audience. So after he has shown that (by for exemple beat Semmy and win the WGP) ther eis a chance that he wont feel motivated to continue his hard training.

Anyway, we will see what happens

Badr Hari is an amazing fighter. All his fights are full of emotion and have explosive ends. I think Hari is the current great talent of k-1. In my opinion he is the only one who can beat the 4 titles record of Ernesto Hoos and I am certain he is going to be the K-1 WGP Champion someday.

IMO Badr always attack and attack and doesn't focus very much on defense. I hate some fighters who are smarter but focusing on defense and calculating such as Remy Bonjasky. Just like I love Barca in football, I love Badr in kickboxing.
Let's take a look on the match between him and Ruslan Karaev. These two guys make an awesome bout 'cause they attack continuously. They are going to fight on 2009-12-05 at K-1 World Grand Prix 2009 Final. Let's enjoy for their performance.

Badr Hari, wish u all the best. Keep working and U'll become the best the greatest kickboxer.

in return I think Badr do not respect other fighters good enough, sometimes he fights so
emotionally or lose stamina in the final rounds for ex. 2008 final against remy , 2007 1/4 final 3rd round vs remy,....But every reasonable martial artist knows that he is one of the best fighters and he is very talented,I guess he needs to experience more fights and be more mature even though he is an almost perfect fighter now.

Hari in my opinion is #4 rated fighter in k-1...the reason im saying this is because he didn't win any titles in k-1 and the other 3 fighter proven to be much more good fighter than him the top is :

top 4 best k-1 fighters :

#1.Semmy Schilt
#2.Remy Bonjasky
#3.Alexey Ignashov (if he had stod to his talent he more than sure have won the gp)
#4.Badr Hari/Alistair Overeem (Both of them are equal in the ring)

The best K-1 community online!

The focus is on building a community that offers more to the users than any other K-1 website. The focus is also on that the community should be totally user driven, with the users as main writers of content. Who would for example write a better fight report than a fan who actually was at the fight? Or who could write a more interesting fighter profile than the fan who loves and really knows about a fighter? We believe that this approach will lead to that fansofk1.com has the most interesting K-1 information.
