Born into a family or martial artists that reached the pinnacle of black belts. Ian's father, Robert Schaffa, planted the seed which created Australia's best pound-for-pound all-round fighter, and the Oceana's most deadly middleweight all-rounder.

Ian began martial arts at the early age of six. He continued practising Ishin Ryu for eight years under the watchful eye of Tony Hails. He then progressed and developed and found a new interest in boxing.

At 17 he found an interest in full contact fighting and commenced training in Kyokushin Karate under Shinan (Jim Phillips).
Competition History

Aged 19, Ian progressed to kickboxing under the legendary Mick Spinks with a record of 11 fights, 1 loss, twice being State Champion.

At 21 he competed in the National Greco Roman Olympic trials in 1999 where he was a bronze medallist. He also became the Australasian Middleweight Champ in Vale Tudo (NHB).

Japan was his calling card to shooto where he was ranked in the Top 10 in the hybrid sport.

"After fighting the World Champion, it gave him the hunger to pursue NHB."

Returning to Australia, he became an inaugural part of Team Fenech, where he was ranked Top 10 as a light middleweight.

Upon returning to NHB he commenced with Bruno Panno of Gracie Jujitsu.

Ian is on the K-1 Hero Circuit soon to become the worlds greatest under 70kg champion in an 8 man tournament to be held in Japan in July, with the final in December in front of more than 100,000 live viewers

The best K-1 community online!

The focus is on building a community that offers more to the users than any other K-1 website. The focus is also on that the community should be totally user driven, with the users as main writers of content. Who would for example write a better fight report than a fan who actually was at the fight? Or who could write a more interesting fighter profile than the fan who loves and really knows about a fighter? We believe that this approach will lead to that fansofk1.com has the most interesting K-1 information.
