Heavyweight Tournament Semi-Final Bout: Rico Verhoeven vs. Gokhan Saki

Round 1 - Verhoeven punches Saki just as he tripped over and the referee rules it a knockdown! Saki pushed the referee but was not disqualified. Jeeze. Verhoeven is doing a good job standing his ground, utilizing leg kicks to keep Saki at bay. Saki whiffs on a highkick. Saki's back is against the ropes Verhoeven peppers him with a few hooks. Saki presses the action in the last ten seconds but Verhoeven defends with leg kicks and the round is over. 10-9 Verhoeven.

Round 2 - Verhoeven is keeping on with his jab and is doing well but Saki landed a really nice body kick. Saki lands a left hook to the body and a left hook to the head. Verhoeven gets kicked in the nads, but Saki wasn't stopped by the referee and followed through with another kick to Verhoeven's legs as he was walking away. Ouch. Saki is playing a dangerous game. Saki lands a flurry of vicious punches and he smells blood; Verhoeven is backing off. Verhoeven gets a few seconds to recover and is out of danger. Saki is still pressing as the horn sounds. 10-9 Saki.

Round 3 - They're exchanging punches and nobody really got the upperhand until Saki landed a straight right while Verhoeven was pressed against the ropes. Verhoeven lands a nice left hook to Saki's liver which causes him to limit his strikes for a few seconds. Verhoeven throws a quadruple jab but only one lands. Saki misses another spinning kick. Saki looks like he's tired. Verhoeven is now the one who is pressing the action and Saki's back is against the ropes. Saki lands a spinning back fist as the horn sounds. 10-9 Verhoeven.

Rico Verhoeven defeated Gokhan Saki by Majority Decision (29-27, 29-28, 28-28)

Heavyweight Tournament Semi-Final Bout: Daniel Ghita vs. Anderson Silva

Round 1 - Ghita is keeping a tight guard. Ghita lands a serious leg kick. Silva responds with one of his own. They exchange a flurry of punches. Silva lands a leg kick that makes Ghita walk silly for a second. Both men are landing powerful shots, but they're barely being blocked so neither man is in danger. Ghita hits Silva with a very odd looking punch. It looked like Ghita missed the jab and Silva fell to the floor. Very odd looking. He stands up but the referee calls it off; Silva can barely stay standing. I've no idea what connected. The commentators are saying Silva got caught on the temple. Either way, fight is over.

Daniel Ghita defeated Anderson Silva by way of TKO (Punch) 1:56 of Round 1

Heavyweight tournament (Reserve Bout): Errol Zimmerman vs. Hesdy Gerges

Round 1 - Gerges is charging but Zimmerman utilized body punches and leg kicks. Gerges doesn't care, though, as he still presses forward and pops him while he's in the corner. Gerges is attacking Zimmerman's leg, hard. Zimmerman drops Gerges with a body punch/hook combination. Gerges gets up right away and the action resumes after the 8-Count. Gerges is popping Zimmerman with jabs. Zimmerman has Gerges cornered now and is landing with hooks and straights and crosses-oh my! Bell sounds and we're done this round. 10-9 Zimmerman.

Round 2 - The pace has slowed down a bit. Zimmerman is attacking the body and Gerges is continuing to throw the leg kicks. Gerges' leg kicks got blocked a few times and he tripped as a result, but it doesn't count as a knockdown. Zimmerman has Gerges in the corner again and is peppering him up, but he makes it out of there. Both men are really tired and the pace of the fight has slowed down. Two clinches within ten seconds. Gerges lands two knees to the body and a hook as the round ends. 10-9 Gerges.
Round 3 - Gerges is attacking Zimmerman but Gerges eats a left counterhook and he falls to his bum! He's back up and the referee let's him fight on. In a matter of seconds, though, Gerges is back on the mat. That's two knockdowns, the fight is officially over. The referee waves it off.

Errol Zimmerman defeated Hesdy Gerges by way of TKO (2 Knockdowns) 0:38 of Round 3

Welterweight: Joseph Vatellini vs. Karim Ghajji

FiOS feed cut for ten minutes and I rejoined the fight while the decision was being read.

Joseph Vatellini defeated Karim Ghajji by way of TKO (2 Knockdowns) 2:53 of Round 3

Light Heavyweight: Tyrone Sprong vs. Nathan Corbett

Round 1 - They touch gloves and we are underway. Corbett whips a head kick but Spong blocks it. Spong takes a knee to the body and then a leg kick. Corbett takes a leg kick that sends him spinning 90 degrees. Corbett falls down but it was a trip. He's back up. Corbett connects with a jab and a body kick. Spong throws a straight but it's blocked. Corbett throws a five punch combination. Spong keeps connecting with leg kicks to the inside and outside. Spong connects with two livershots; one a kick and one a punch. Corbett's body is taking some serious punishment. Corbett gets rattled with a left hook! He's resting on the ropes and Spong seems to be letting him recover. Bell sounds. The round opened even, but Spong took it in the end. Corbett's body is red. 10-9 Spong.

Round 2 - Corbett connects with a kick to the body, but seconds later he gets dropped by a hard left hook. He's back up, makes the 8-count and we are back underway. Spong is cornering Corbett and is dictating where the fight goes. Spong almost drops Corbett but it seems to have been a trip. A mere five seconds later, Corbett gets dropped yet again. Spong connected with a dominating left hook; that's the story of the fight, isn't it? The referee calls the fight off and we are done; Spong is the victor.

Tyrone Spong defeated Nathan Corbett by way of TKO 1:10 of Round 2

Heavyweight Finals: Daniel Ghita vs. Rico Verhoeven

Round 1 - Ghita is bouncing on his toes while Verhoeven is flat on his feet. Ghita connects with two powerful leg kicks. Ghita with a right hook. Ghita goes for a knee and Verhoeven pushes him which causes Ghita to fall, but it was a slip. He's back up. Verhoeven lands a straight to the body. Ghita lands a straight. Ghita is controlling where this fight goes and connects with a body kick while Verhoeven is cornered. Whenever Verhoeven is going in to attack, Ghita lands a counterpunch. Verhoeven finally connects with a straight right. Verhoeven lands an inside leg kick as the round ends. 10-9 Verhoven.

Round 2 - Ghita and Verhoeven are both connecting with a series of good leg kicks. Left uppercut/right hand from Verhoeven but Ghita comes back with a combo of his own. Verhoeven has Ghita pressed against the ropes and is connecting with straights and uppercuts. Verhoeven is picking up momentum because Ghita is slowing down. Ghita's power makes up for his fatigue, though. Ghita gets rocked with an uppercut from Verhoeven, but Ghita answers with a head kick. Ghita eats some punches but Ghita rocks Verhoeven with a right straight. They collide heads but it doesn't seem to phase them. The bell sounds as they exchange leg kicks. 10-9 Verhoven.

Round 3 - Ghita connects with three punches that rock Verhoeven's head. They exchange a couple flurries of punches and Verhoeven gets hit in the balls, the fight pauses. We're back underway. Their fatigue is showing as they are constantly clinching. Verhoeven eats a left hook but Ghita is eating a number of punches himself. They clinch and Ghita falls over out of exhaustion, but it's not ruled a knockdown. Ghita's mouth is agape and he is gasping for air! Verhoeven hits a left hook and Ghita lands a body kick and the crowd is on their feet. Ten seconds left and Ghita eats a SERIOUS head kick and right hook! Bell sounds. 10-9 Verhoeven

Rico Verhoeven defeated Daniel Ghita by way of Unanimous Decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28)

Mike ruined Saki as well - his behavior was like Badria Hari. He pushed the judge (even though the eight-count was unexisting, he can't do that), he kicked Verhoeven in the groin and after Rico turned away from the low blow Saki attacked him, as he did multiple times after the judge called break. Saki had no stamina in the third round - so typical of Mike's fighters. I think Rico won even without the false eight-count. Mike managed to make Saki a bad person and a lesser fighter than he used to be in his Glory era.

Rico should be checked for PEDs, or even cocaine, he moved forward like a zombie.

what a tournament.i dont remember a bigger upset than this one.i dont know what it was but saki looked off really bad.but nothing to take away from verhoeven.he looked unbeatable last night.and saki was acting plain stupid.even though im a fan of saki the kick after the groin shot was unacceptable.if he ll keep acting like an a..hole i ll stop supporting him.
and huge congratulations to verhoeven.he turned everything upside down everything in competition.if he can keep this pace and hunger he is going to be unstoppable.he just needs some more power in those punches.

Mike managed to make Saki a bad person and a lesser fighter than he used to be in his Glory era.{/q} i agree on saki,s behaviore before the fight and during the fight was ridiclious
he should be penatilysed for unsportmanship behaviore that kick was uncalled for
and the reff all ready said go to your corner ..

Also the pushing of the reff shows NON discipline you dont have your emotions under control whats the use of being a pro fighter if you cant be boss of your own mental stade

But blaming Mike for everything is way to easy in the fighter desides what he dus in the ring saki is experianced enuff to know how to behave in a ring and behave like a proffesional fighter and not sum lose canon picked opp from a bar !!

I never seen manhoef behaving like that he is a mikes gym fighter to ..

The fight itself wel saki came short in size reach pretty mutch the same story as when he fought in k1 he just comes a little short against taller fighetrs with better reach and a smart tacktick and thats use lots of highkicks and lowkicks to create distance and
than counter .. Rico won that fight sublime he made saki mad out of controll and capitilized on that :) great fight to bad rico dus not have ko power

And rico and steriod well next time he better use sum that wil give hjim sum power to create a KO or a TKO ..power in his arms ..

B.T.W saki messed this fight up him self he Underestimated overlooked verhoefen and acted damn cockey arrogant from the start (i understand its part show)
but in promos in interviews he was talking about verhoefen and syaing shit like rico is not a talented fighter he just work hard im better i wil kill rico bla bla bla

He payed the price :)

It was a great night of fights !!!

i watched every single fight broadvasted ..

Verhoefen deserved to win the HW tournemant he was great he just misses ko power :(

My boi Spong is on a other level if he is 100 procent focused he completl;y erased that first loss againts Corbet ..

Man that left hook was brutal and his lowkicks where crisp and clean he made corbet spin and jump with every lowkick he thrown at him .. that sweep was briliant

forst round nathan landed sum heavy combinations on spongs gaurd but damn
spongs speed was good his timing was good combining his kicks and punches :)

in the end Corbet was counting sheeps respect do he is a tuff guy but he has nothing on Spong at this Moment Spong is just in his prime surrounded with a good team

OK. but what do you think about the final ?

Posted: 2013-10-13 at: 07:46
@Cerebel The final was great to verhoefen was the deserved winner like i said before
people damn near attacked me for doing so hahaha

Ghita was just to slow in the end plus he looked gassed as hell verhoefen also was tired but looked like a fresh bunny also concidering he fought 3 rounds with saki

Verhoefen outconditiond out smarted ghita ghita was to slow every blow he made verhoefen counterd with one more Looks like verhoefen found a strategy to cover up his lack off Ko power He just uses lots of lowkicks highkicks than thwos a punch and smothers you until reff takes you apart than he repeats the same thing

looks boring sumtimes because he dus not finish it with a tko or ko hopefully that wil come in the future ..

I ned to see a verhoefen vs spong or a Ghita vs Spong :)

If spong wants to make a step back up to HW for a superfight But on teh other side i like him in lhw his speed is better than ...

And what do you think about Gerges vs Zimmerman? Errol pretty much destroy him. How do you think Zimmerman would do against Spong Or Ghita? I think this time errol beat ghita.

@Rishi yeah. but something odd happened there: ghita was so tired in the second round he could hardly stand in his feet. he was totally powerless. strange !!! considering the quick win on Silva ... than all of a sudden he is gassed out. wtf!!!! did he go clubbing one night before the fight ?!

@remy_k-1 Well Zimmerman seems to have found his mojo back :)

Al do strange thing about that fight was it looked like hesdey was doing his thing for the first time in a long time his lowkicks looked crisp again his punches looked alright ,,

But he made mistakes he engaged in to many punch flurrys with Errol he walked straithforward after he kicks he practically walked into errols hooks ..

Bad mistakes to make and he did it a couple of times in the fight ..

Errol used good timing and caught him end of story ..i hope zimmerman can keep this up i do belief he still looks sloppy when he gets tired he starts throwing to many wide swinsg hesdey should have capitilized on that ..

And how zimmerman would do against spong wel to be honest and im not saying that cus spong is one of my fav fighters ..

i think zimmerman should fight his way back up the ladder spong in this shape is to mutch for zimmerman ..only way he could win is when spong makes a stupid mistake or gets overconfident and dus sum leaving his gaurd down crap..

Spong at the moment has all his weapons in order his boxing is crisp and clean compared to zimmermans plus his cardio is wat beter thw whole picture is complete

ghita vs zimmerman is a other story

@Rishi I would really like to see Saki vs Spong. That would be an even match-up and a firework of a fight.

And again about Rico - is it normal for a guy that size to have that kind of stamina, and not show at least one bit of fatigue or slow down even marginally after 6 rounds of fighting, not anyone, but the elite in the sport!?

@Mitko J. i would like to see saki vs spong the rematch to would be fireworks
i think spong outgrown saki at this MOMENT he is in best shape ever
but yeah one mistake and bam its over ..anyway maybe a discusion for a later stadium

As for as Verhoefen and roids man i dont know these days you never know
not one fighter i know not even the fighters in my favorite fighers list i can say off he is 100 procent natural ..these days with so mutch heavy competition its hard to not beliefe some one is using sumthing or what ever .,.

BUt untill profen i chooce to be goodwilling and beliefe its all natural sum fighters really have the gastank of a robot just like some fighters have a jaw made of iron ..

Verhoefen lacks ko power and brute force in my opinion he uses his size and his posture in a smart way combined with punches that pack a lott of weight and sum heavy lowkicks and highkicks ...I think je lacks to mutch core power to be using roids

But of course i could be wrong !!!

He dus not get hit mutch either so that spares his cardio to ... saki could barlly touch him except for a couple of flurrys
