It's Showtime Announces Huge January Event in Amsterdam

It looks like if you are a kickboxing fan, your patience over what has been a tumultuous and eerily quiet year for the kickboxing world is about to payoff. It's Showtime began the year strong, promoting event after event in March, April, May and June before the "summer silence" hit. If you are a longtime reader and have been wondering why LiverKick.com's rankings have not changed since then, the reason is just that -- nobody is putting on big fights between ranked opponents. September is gearing up to be another big month for the kickboxing world, and is starting off with a bang as Simon Rutz of It's Showtime promised a big announcement and has delivered on that announcement.
It's Showtime is indeed planning a mega-show on January 28th as previously announced. This show will not be a Heavyweight tournament as was rumored, but will feature top names inside of the It's Showtime ring, including but not limited to Badr Hari, Tyrone Spong, Hesdy Gerges, Daniel Ghita and Ben Edwards. That would be a great beginning of a line up for a Heavyweight tournament, but big matches are just as good if delivered as It's Showtime has promised. It's Showtime has promised 12 "absolute world class" fights.
It's Showtime also wants to know who you want to fight Badr Hari at this event. They plan on releasing the card by the end of September and tickets should be on presale on October 15th. In honor of this, LiverKick.com's latest poll will ask you just who you want to see as Badr Hari's next opponent. Everyone has been waiting a long time to see Badr Hari against a legitimate opponent and now might be the time.
The decision for this card to be in January rests on the fact that It's Showtime has received word that K-1 plans to hold the World Grand Prix Final 16 in October and the Final 8 in December of this year, and that this gives more time for the fighters to prepare for their fights (WGP is usually the second week of December, the It's Showtime card is the last week of January). So for kickboxing fans the next few months should be gearing up again.
If this article gets 3 * rating then someone really
deserves to get his ass kicked
i´m already over the hari vs bonjaski fight wish
and looking for a gergets rematch more, would be
great also to see a hari vs daniel ghita.GOD i got
a big smile on my face when i saw this post.
Great news would love to see Hari v Ghita or
Gerges. Hope the rumours about the wgp happening
are true but im doubting it.
perhaps 2012 will be the beginning of world wide
kickboxing dominence and the end of mma!
@Cdn
Mongoose LOL, you are wishing too
much!Let's just hope for a good kickboxing year.
well as we couldnt see him for a loooong time to
fight i just would like to see him fighting thats
all and also winning too :) it s a long year soon
to be finished and almost nothing has happenned
hope there wont be a year like this again without
any action and without K-1 really it s pathetic to
wait for an event happenning in half a year
withouth much more ... :(
I can always dream..haha...get it.....hoping
kickboxing will recover from the 8 count and begin
to recover...If my gym is any indication almost everyone wants to study mma but most only want to train in standup...funny
P1Exactly the tactics I employ with kids when they ask for something expensive and unnecessary - next week, when it gets warm, when it starts to rain, after you turn five... Wasn't a god damn fight arranged already between Hari and Ghita this September? And a Hari - Bonjasky early next year? And again, a meaningless bunch of random match-ups? I think I'm gonna be sick just about now.
P2
If you want to object, please read carefully first:
What is that nonsense about just a month to recover from the supposed WGP in which some might have to fight three fights in a row? What if someone sustains a grave pinky injury? Should the whole January thing be canceled in that unfortunate event (unnaturally red and shriveled pinky on fighter's part), or just the wounded hero replaced? Or maybe just his pinky (by an authorized surgeon, of course)? I think IS and Rutzbaum need to double-check things with an expert on the matter in order to avoid any quarrels, confusion and sectionalisation among us, action-hungry fans afterwards.
P.S.
I think they should consult the you-know-who, whose name is too sacred to be standing in the same universe (let alone sentence) with the word pinky, the one who couldn't get it up for three months after his last foreplay (things didn't quite get to the intercourse),
@Mitko J. You are
getting grumpier with every comment ...
The fact is, that it seems like It's Showtime is the only organization that is trying to give us some good events and fights. Plus they pay the fighters.
I try to see the positive side.
@D-rop The current state of kick-boxing
allows for nothing but frustration. If you are
content with how things are ATM, or if you are
happy that AO ruined what could have been a great
tournament, I can't argue that.
@Mitko J. IS in
September got cancelled / postponed because there
is a (huge?) chance that K1 will have a final 16 in
October. So its a smart move of IS.
How about Hari - Saki?I like Ghita, Overeem and Gerges,
But Saki (and Spong) surprised me the most, with their speed and technique.
Great!!! So there is life after all :-) I was
getting more and more boring by (only) watching
Boxing and MMA. Ok, they´re nice - but K1 is
stunningly beautiful!!!
my birthday is at 19 oktober! would be a nice
birthday present !wanna see saki vs Spong Badr vs Gerges
@ronaldo I heard that Spong is
considering switching to MMA. That would be shame
The fight I wanted to see the most was Remy-Badr 3,
but from the last WGP, my dream-fight is
(healthy)Saki vs Overeem, just to show him who is
really the boss. And if K-1 fails to deliver this year, then Spong should do whatever he considers most lucrative for him. It'd be a huge shame, but the blame will not be on Spong, because his youth is going to waste this way.
Mitko is right in many ways. how could they put
these two fights so close if the WGP would really
happen? If the WGP would really happen then why we
only keep on guessing and so. All these months were
about the waiting and waiting and yes its bloody
long to wait for something that it s not sure even
that happens. Maybe Mitko is right about Overeem i
m not sure on that. I really hope to see some
actions anyhow . I dont feel bad about fighters
considering MMA considering their financial
situation. If we keep on waiting so do they but
they also wait even more as they live out of
fighting ( well so i know then who knows :)) so i
hope the waiting to be over. If Badr would get into
a fight with Ghita who at least had fights this
year then he would lose against him badly. Maybe
with Saki it s just the same, he is in a better
shape now. Anyhow Badr is lost in an unnatural
manner these months so we cant know anything. He
should need at least one more fight or rather two
to get back into shape and fight the biggest names
unless they want him to lose rightaway. He was not
in a good shape in his last fight, his only luck
was that his opponent was so bad.
@szanpan What do you mean was not
in shape? Why do you think Badr was not in shape?
@szanpan You are so funny: already
making excuses for the loss of Hari, IF he should
lose ... And, important detail: it's not HIS
fault ...
The fight which could bring out K1 of its torpor
would be an overeem hari or an overeem - schilt or
another Hari-bonjasky.not big suspense in Hari-Gerges, Saki or Ghita even if these matches will be interesting
ok .. spong - saki could go anyway everytime. Saki
is just a not expected k1 bigshot, but he is... and
i'm surprised. For his weight and height you
would expect he wouldn't stand a chance but he
is one of the ..if not the toughest fighters out
there. And for Spong i have to say.. this guy did
what nobody could ever want or do. Spong came from
76 kg and moved up and up , and won every
worldtitle untill he couldn't go up no more and
is only getting used to being a heavyweight right
now. I believe he is the champ to be.
D-rop no i didnt exactly mean that. In my opinion
a figher is different if he has only one fight in
the last almost two years. What do you have to say
against it? I think that was which initially caught
Fedor as well. Yearly one fight is not enough to
stay in shape imo. Badr should need one or more
warm up. Right now Ghita would kick is ass which i
would be of course unhappy to see.Iuli : he is my favourite but in my opinon he would have been better against Gregory if he was active before thats it.
@szanpan Yes, there probably is
something like 'ring-rust'. A fighter has
to fight ... in the ring. On the other hand, the first 8 (?) months was a kind of punishment for his behaviour (kicking Gerges in the face when he was down). So Hari should be thankful that he is allowed to ever step in a ring anyway.
@szanpan Hari has not fought for was
fleeing police in Morocco. Hari nu a fost suspendat
din k-1.
@szanpan Hari has 4 fights in one
year and 6 month and 22 days, not one fight in
almost two years. This is for D-rop:
Hari has not fought for was fleeing police in Morocco. Hari was not suspended from k-1.
@stark hmmm i dont know ! we dont
have a real kickboxer in mma yet! would like to see
what he can do there! but if they putt him up
against a good ground guy! wrestler/jijutsu! it
would be hard! but spong is a fast student so i
think he can train takedowndefence! just like
qintin jackson! he is hard to takedown! if i where
spong i would train with a guy like rampage for a
while before he does it!! instead of a guy like
rashad! but now this wont happen anymore knowing
evens and rampage dont like eachother!!!

@szanpan i think hari dont need to
get in shape! what do you mean by shape? he is
sparring in his gym! there ar a lot of good
sparring partners for him overhere! i dont think he
is out of shape! and i think he would beat Ghita
with no problem if they fight today! its all about
cardio for hari! thats the only thing that must be
wright, and i think it is,! the guy knows how to
fight!~needs no shape, he's a born fighter! not
a made fighter!!!
ps my top 5 dont even includes ghita! if you ask
me1-Hari/shilt 2- Saki, 3- spong, 4 -Gerges, 5 -Aerts and 6- Ghita/overeem!
i know you all will say aerts?? but yes ! i was also saying this when everybody said he would not do good in GP! and ended up beating number 1 schilt again- and was pissing blood against Overeem, overeem would not have survived schilt! i give my life on that one! and then aerts would have won in the final ! ushhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
i know a lot of you guys think different! but i would like to see your top 5 ?? (ps sorry for posting double! still cant delete my comments! can someone do this??)
No! He is 40 years old but he could beat guys like Gerges, Zimmerman, Ghita ... etc. And may be Schilt again.
For last WGP, was litteraly furious when he lost vs Overeem and after his exploit against schilt
Yes Aerts is still more skilled that most of them
