Where is It's Showtime going?

or is it going anywhere at all

First of all, if you are gonna argue with me about this, please read it through first.

Really fellas, what's the point of It's Showtime (IS) events? To make money, to popularize kick-boxing, or just to justify its (so far) purposeless existence?

K-1 is, above all, a sport. And what is the purpose of competing if not to prove that one is the best. Imagine Champions League, or World Cups, or NBA just setting up random matches without the process of elimination and the final match. I'm those tournaments won't hold their ground because the lack of tension and therefore lack of interest in them. That is the road IS is heading. Just how did they determine that Hari-Schilt would be the IS champion match, and later Hari-Gerges. Rutzbaum had a dream it should be that way? And they consider the victor a legitimate kick-boxing champion of the world? First of all one would have to qualify to be a contender for the belt. And through what system did the aforementioned qualify? Now I'm getting to my point - there should be a qualification system for every weight-category IS plans a belt for. The best would be a cup system, for example last 32 (16-th final) which could be voted at their web-site, or hand picked by Rutzbaum and co., or taken from FOK1 rank list, whatever way they find more effective. Those 32, based on quality (measurement of which will be their current records and experience) should be first ranked and then divided in two groups of 16, and randomly matched between the groups. The fights should be split in several tournaments (which will be now purposeful), and the remaining 16 randomly matched. Again, the fights should be split in several tournaments, and there will be 8 left. For those 8 a final tournament will be organized the same as FEG used to, and voilà! - we have a completely legitimate word champion of kick-boxing, and IS proves doubters like myself it's a machine.

If 32 is too much, they can alway start from 16, but better not.

In my opinion, there should be three categories - 72, 92, and open-weight.

In the meantime, they could still organize minor local "talent hunting" tournaments. And those first 16 eliminated should prove themselves against the newcomers to retain their "final 32" status.

I hope you can understand and forgive me for not having a good opinion for IS now, but in my view this is the only way they can become the real deal.

Apart from that, my dreams of FEG getting their crap together again will stop. Seriously, I often have those dreams.

@szanpan Yeah this seems an 'exclusive' to me too.

Mitko, I think you should give IS a little more time. They (up until now) always had FEG's K-1 way above them. So it made no sense to make these qualifications and championships. And you gotta admit they made some great events in the last few years.
Now it seems FEG/K-1 is dead(?) and IS could really take over the leading position in standup fighting. I agree with all things you say, about qualifications etc. But it takes time to organize this properly. I think they're working on it. There will be an exciting MAX-tournament in september, http://www.fansofk1.com/article?aID=3951&Ca tegory=1 so that is a good start.

They already have tv deals. They already promote many events. now we just need perhaps 4 - 6 major events a year with the top standup guys on the planet.

The max fight is exciting.

I agree with you on all accounts...
Also I don't like Ubeda judging every bout, and I am annoyed by that announcer, not to mention organizing closed Black Tuxedo events, for a small audience...
The thing is, like D-rop said they need a couple more years to try and correct themselves. Market will be the judge.
Although, it seems to me they are in financial troubles as well...

@torazulu Seems to me that way.

Another thing, I asked you a question on your profile but still no answer, so do something about it.

@szanpan Wow, szanpan, you think he would care? However, that act tells a lot of things about you, and none of them is bad ;-) As I have already said - girl, you are a dude!

P.S. I hope you re-edited Rutzbaum to Rutz, for he might feel offended.

No i m sorry i forgot to do so, but i guess he got even worse some times i dont think he cares about it. I would have been happy for his opinion and you know even you or we dont get any reaction he might as well learn out of your opinion and thats the most important.

The best K-1 community online!

The focus is on building a community that offers more to the users than any other K-1 website. The focus is also on that the community should be totally user driven, with the users as main writers of content. Who would for example write a better fight report than a fan who actually was at the fight? Or who could write a more interesting fighter profile than the fan who loves and really knows about a fighter? We believe that this approach will lead to that fansofk1.com has the most interesting K-1 information.
