WGP Interview: Schilt, Ghita!!

Semmy Schilt

Q: What's your condition like now?
A: It's good.

Q: What do you think of Kyotaro?
A: He has good boxing and moves a lot. He also has good kicks. I think I'll need to corner him.

Q: Kyotaro has said he is looking at this as a single fight just to stop you. How do you feel about it?
A: Me too.

Q: What sort of fight do you want to have?
A: Of course I have a plan, but you'll need to watch on Saturday to see it.

Q: You might have to fight a team mate, so will that bother you?
A: This time it is okay. I already fought Errol for the title. That was the first time to fight a team mate. I think we are professional fighters though, and we will fight hard.

Q: Who do you see as your rival?
A: Myself.

Q: How do you feel about all the attention towards Alistair Overeem?
A: I don't think all the fans see it that way.

Q: You've been fighting in Japan for a long time now. How does it feel?
A: It still feels very special to fight in Japan. It comes from the budo background. I still enjoy fighting here very much.

Q: This will be your fifth championship if you win it, how does that make you feel?
A: I'm very aware of it and the opportunities it will bring. I'll do my best to win it.

Q: Please give a message to the fans.
A: Hello, I am Semmy Schilt. I will do my best on Saturday, so please support me.

Q: Last year's tournament you won in record time. Do you plan to do so again?
A: I have no such plan to beat that. I don't care how many rounds it takes, but I will take the belt home.

Q: Would you like to break the record though?
A: it would be great.

Q: Does age affect you at all?
A: Not yet.

Q: Who do you believe will be your opponent in the final?
A: It could be one of 6 people including the reserve fighters so I won't bother speculating. I don't care who I face.

Q: What do you weight now?
A: I think I am 132kg. Maybe a little more, but I'm not sure.

Daniel Ghita

Q: What's your current condition like?
A: It's good. I feel very strong. I feel really good.

Q: In the F16 you gave us a great knockout. How about for this tournament?
A: I think the last bout was great. I think everybody in the final is hungry to win, and I think most will try to end the bouts by knockout.

Q: What do you think about Saki?
A: I have a good impression of him. He is a good technical fighter, but it isn't enough to beat me.

Q: Saki is also a good low kicker, and you won't want to take much damage if you're planning to advance.
A: That's right. He cannot touch me.

Q: Many people seem to be focused on Alistair. Who do you care about the most in the tournament?
A: I don't care about anyone. I'll do my job no matter who is in front of me.

Q: Last year you lost to Semmy Schilt. Do you think you have improved enough a year later to become the champion?
A: Yeah, I feel 100% confident in winning the tournament.

Q: What has this last year been for you?
A: It was good. Last year I lost in the Final 16, and the next I have made the Finals. My level has increased, and here I am.

Q: You're the first Rumanian fighter to make it to the Final 8. How does that make you feel?
A: I feel I am happy to be the first. I believe I will be the only one. I am very proud to make it to where I am.

Q: How popular is K-1 in Romania?
A: It is very popular. I think millions of people will watch the finals live.

Q: Please give a message to the fans.
A: Please watch for Daniel Ghita in the Finals. I'll do my best.

Q: How did your gym get named Kamakura?
A: It is named after Buddha.

Q: Are you the one that named the gym?
A: No, the boss there named it.

Q: Is the gym in Holland or in Romania?
A: It is in Holland.

Q: There were some rumors that you had a leg injury leading into this fight. Are you injured?
A: Yes, I was injured but I'm okay now.

Q: Where was the injury?
A: That's a secret.

Q: When were you injured?
A: About 2 weeks ago.

Hmm, a big secret that Ghita was injured two weeks ago...so this was the rumour Schiavello mentioned? If that is the case I bet Schilt will take the belt this year as well. Sorry K-1 Canuck! ;)

The best K-1 community online!

The focus is on building a community that offers more to the users than any other K-1 website. The focus is also on that the community should be totally user driven, with the users as main writers of content. Who would for example write a better fight report than a fan who actually was at the fight? Or who could write a more interesting fighter profile than the fan who loves and really knows about a fighter? We believe that this approach will lead to that fansofk1.com has the most interesting K-1 information.
