Petrosyan Out of Pajonsuk Fight - Souwer Steps In

Source: Headkicklegend
by Fraser Coffeen

K-1 MAX champion Giorgio Petrosyan has been forced to drop out of his fight with Pajonsuk. The fight was scheduled for next weekend's It's Showtime show, however the hand injury suffered by Petrosyan during the MAX GP has indeed required surgery, and he will now be out of action for "several months." This is almost a carbon copy of last year, when Petrosyan also injured has hand and had to drop out of much anticipated fights with Masato, Yoshihiro Sato, and Nieky Holzken.

On the plus side, the fight will still go on, and It's Showtime have contracted Andy Souwer to take Petrosyan's place. I am sad to see Petrosyan out, but as far as replacements go, you really couldn't ask for more. Souwer is a clear world class fighter, and the match-up with Pajonsuk is a very intriguing fight. As you may recall, this was originally scheduled for the May Amsterdam show, but Souwer's eye injury forced him out of that fight. Also good to see Souwer can fight here as there were rumblings that he was injured at the S-Cup - obviously any injury there was not severe enough to keep him out of action.

It will be very interesting to see how this one plays out. Souwer is coming in off an odd loss to Toby Imada where Imada took advantage of Shootboxing rules and used throws to score the upset. The Pajonsuk fight will be under It's Showtime rules, so no throws, but Pajonsuk effectively used those rules in his May fight against Sato. There, he used throws and sweeps to get Sato off his game and pick up the decision win - could he do the same against Souwer here? There's no doubt Souwer is a more capable fighter than Sato, but the combination of Pajonsuk's recent win and Souwer's recent loss could give Pajonsuk an opening.

We'll have more coverage of this event, including details on the live internet stream, next week.

Petrosyan out of action for a couple of months again! :S
Must be frustrating..especially when you`re considered to be the best out there right now.
However...his replacement is indeed the best they could get, so I`m thrilled to see this fight!!!
Besides this gives us a great opportunity to interview Souwer for our next report. Since Petrosyan`s English isn`t that good and my Italian stops at "pizza quatro formaggi" ;-)

@Shizzle Dizzle Yeah, same situation as last year.
But they have a real good replacement.

@Shizzle Dizzle Yes Shizzle Dizzle, whenever IT`S SHOWTIME has an event, we try to be there and do interviews with the fighters there. Here is a link to the last event: http://www.fansofk1.com/article?aID=3445&Ca tegory=3

By the way...where are you from Shizzle? Maybe you can do reports in your country? :)

The focus is on building a community that offers more to the users than any other K-1 website. The focus is also on that the community should be totally user driven, with the users as main writers of content. Who would for example write a better fight report than a fan who actually was at the fight? Or who could write a more interesting fighter profile than the fan who loves and really knows about a fighter?
