School reunion!

Few thoughts on upcoming UFC 119, Cro Cop and Mark Hunt...

I cant help it, but compare this to a high school reunion.Do you go to reunions? Admit it or not, there is a scent of rivalry in the air.Who has the best car?Who is fat, who is bold, who is richer, who is more successful, and who has gone down the drain altogether.I have been on three so far, and the wheel of luck seems to turn as always, someone is going up, someone down, sometimes it is your fault , sometimes circumstances.

Tomorrow two two of old classmates are going to meet. One as a sideshow, the other as a main event. Both were K1 fighters, but Hunt managed to be the champion. It can be argued that he had a lot of luck, but hey he was Champ, crown and all.Mirko was not, although he came close. Both transitioned to MMA.When they met Hunt was again victorious. So how the hell is he fighting on the preliminary card, (and should consider that as a big personal favor after struggling to survive and embarrassing himself with internet first subscription-fee blog ), and Cro Cop walking on a red carpet, and his participation regarded as a personal favor on his side. That is combination of luck and personal choices you make, and while you sit down on a reunion and watch that once prosperous boy, and your ex-rival, hurrying to get drunk in order to cope with the situation he is in, same kind of thoughts drift through your mind.

Give it five more years.Chances are that he will sunk even deeper. But sometimes he may bounce back. And if he does he will be stronger then you.And you may start to wonder , is it my time now? Will I be able to make a comeback when, and if, the time comes?

If there was such possibility, that I could choose to be in one of those two skin tomorrow, i would like to be Mark Hunt. Why?

Cro Cop:If he loses, no big deal.He got a lot money, he said he would retire anyway, and he gave one last fight to the fans.He is already rich, respected, loved by the fans, and a legend of a sport, and he lost against a tough opponent. If he wins, cool.Perhaps one more fight, more money, he is an even bigger legend, so much the better.

Mark Hunt:If he loses, he will get enough money to buy himself a ticket home, and some super glue to fix his teeth.Everybody consider him a joke.General UFC audience will wonder "who put this fatso on the card?".He is already considered a washout, and he was defeated by a newbie in his debut. But if luck smiles to him, and he scores a victory in the devastating fashion that he is capable of, he may yet again climb on that ever-rotating wheel.Destiny has a funny sense of humor, and maybe they are on the same card for a reason.

In all probability, they will both lose fights tomorrow. But if Hunt wins that will be a moment around which movies are made.Downfall and comeback. And if he needs an inspiration, he needs to look no further then the Mirkos dressing room.Tomorrow he gets a once in a lifetime chance to be a Rocky-style character which was inspiration for so many of us.To me that opportunity is worth more than a pile of cash.We will all be dead one day, but the legend (if any) will stay.Hear that fatso?

glad
Veeeery nice article. Thanks for sharing yor thoughts, torazulu.

They both are legends. Even their lesser performances of the last years wont break that down ...
And the opponents of both of them better show some respect, or else they will be going down!

wow, you know what they write on Mir? that his parents are Cuban BUT descending from a RUSSIAN tribe from Morocco?? wow :)

To me it s too bad that i cant follow UFC, as youtube is really checking nowadays, which videos are against anyone s rights. So if you have any idea how to watch this fight with Crocop, i welcome them all. Besides he seems a strong guy, former champ, i think Mirko will have a hard time against him.

it s a great article Torazulu, but personally i think that the reunions were in real found for the competition :D there are so many funny movies and book also on reunions and it s a great topic for that really. I always hated reunions, everyone want to seem cooler than they are, if not then they will be the losers of the class and so on.. but it s fun to read about it or to see others reunions :)

Very well said D-Rop! As a fan of first k1 & Kickboxing, I only passsively pay attention to MMA. However this weekend, I will be watching & cheering for them. What would be better then Mark landing that huge right hand and Mirko landing his left high kick for ko s. What would be a bettter message for those arogant MMA fighters and fans : If you think are old k1 fighters are tough you should meet some of our younger ones!

@Torazulu
You should start (at least) writing columns for magazines and get some money for it. You sure know how to spark sentiments.

Thank you my friends! As I write this first part of the saga is over, and Mark Hunt is out already. Well , thats it for him. Damn! I almost had a half movie script ready in my head:Young Mark fighting in front of bar, rise , fall, and then again rise like a Phoenix in UFC 119...Oh well...

The focus is on building a community that offers more to the users than any other K-1 website. The focus is also on that the community should be totally user driven, with the users as main writers of content. Who would for example write a better fight report than a fan who actually was at the fight? Or who could write a more interesting fighter profile than the fan who loves and really knows about a fighter?
