Finally!
Thanks for posting, but it is very unclear like this, could you please redo the article a bit?

So Arlovski is in the Final 16 ????????? This is just absurd!

Wow, some big surprises here, but also some very good matchups. Very cool that Raul Catinas gets a shot at the final 16 allready now, I hope he is ready... And Arlovski is really good in MMA/boxing isn`t he? I wonder if this fight will be really exciting or if it is going to be one way domination..... Hesdy Gerges is in of course, but against Semmy... It`s like a 90% sure way to get eliminated. Still, it makes much more sence to put Hesdy against Shilt than .... anybody else. Who else has both the size and the weapons to win over Schilt as he is now? Zimmermann vs Ghita is going to be great, and I think they are evenly matched. This way both have a fair chance to advance... Karaev vs Spong; excellent match up, power and aggression vs tecnique and smarts, and they both have speed. Should be fireworks. Gokhan Saki vs Freddy Kemayo. I know I am going to love this fight. I do think Saki is going to take it as long as he doesn;t allow Kemayo to connect with those crazy knees. Should be a speady affair. All in all, I am very satisfied. Gotta say it was about bloody time!

i wonder if arlovski tries that flying knee that worked so well in the fedor fight

cool
Sorry, the fan-vote of FEG was just a farce. I think Arlovski doesnt deserve to be in the Final 16. But it could be a great fight though,against Catinas. Especially with that killing flying knee of his :)

There will be some great fights for sure.

Zimmerman vs. Ghita will be evil! Though i sadly think Errol is too much for Ghita at this point. Aerts vs. Teixeira - could be Aerts´ ticket to the final 8, but I think Teixeira will be motivated and ready and might take it by decision if Aerts is not 100%. Karaev vs. Spong will be fireworks like Bård said, probably an insanely technical fight.

And i hope that Gerges will be able to stop Schilt,or at least give him a hell of a battle.

Isnt anyone here upset that hariman bada is missing? I am - a lot - in spite the fact I despised him at moments, he gives a touch of glamour and extra fuss build-up to every event he takes part in. It would have been great if he took e.g. Catinas place.

I knew they are going to put some "strange" fighters on the card. Arlovski and Sato? Please

No Hari and Bonjasky. Suspense for final 8 limited : if no injury or big surprise, it will be between schilt and overeem. Saki is not training at GGG?

@Mitko J. Well, the fighter Hari will be missed, always spectacular.
The advantage is that this years event wont be spoiled by him. There probably wont be any fighter kicked in the face when they are down ....

Haha. No Remy. No Bada. And this Catinas vs Arlovski wtf joke.

There won`t be competition in Schilt`s way to win the 5th title.

@Stark Guess they did find a way to sneak Takumi Sato after all! LOL
I personally think this is a great card, lots of good match-ups and fights I am eager to see.
As far as Badr is concerned, it would be stupid for him to show up even if he could.He didnt train properly for a long time, and I doubt that he would be emotionally stable after all that has happened.It is a shame...

yeah its a shame haris not in. u can imagine the scene, after koing arlovski he then stamps on his throat in a rage, tanikawa and other management try to reason with him and are kod with spinning back fists, finally hes lead away by dozens of security wwe style and all in front of a primetime tv audiance. oh well theres always next year.

@davcol Humor skills+4 LOLZ
By he way, Arlovski is really a great news.He didnt get an easy opponent at all, and he has got a lot to lose in this one, but he decided to show up anyway.But I dont think he is capable kick boxer as Mirko or Alistair.If I was him, I would take a close look on Catinas footage and train like hell.

@torazulu I for one think Catinas is exciting. Sure, he might not have much to say against an opponent like Schilt, but the shorter ones should be aware. What he did to that Carter Williams-guy was proof enough of that. I don´t know enough about Arlovski, but no i can´t imagine that he´ll have an easy time with Catinas.

@Simoyin
My point exactly.Catinas is tough as nails, Carter was a joke, he manhandled Leko and Poturak as well.He is not a big star (yet), but very dangerous...And if he K.O.-s Arlovski, (and he can do it) he will be a megastar.And what will Arlovski be?...

FEG probably tried real hard to get Hari to participate in the WGP, because he always brings a lot of excitement to a tournament, win or lose. I must say Im quite disappointed that he couldnt join, but its probably for the best. He wouldnt be 100% ready anyway (lack of training, too many distractions, etc..). It may be the best thing for him to do at the moment: take some time away from it all to recharge and refocus, then make a serious run at the WGP next year.

Now that Hari is out, I will be rooting for Overeem. He is probably the one fighter that may be able to stop Schilt from bagging another title. And my dark horse pick will be Gerges, a terrific newcomer who will be a real test for Schilt in the first round (although he will probably lose on points to the giant after a hard-fought war).
Mitko J. (1210 posts)
Posted: 2010-09-19 at: 09:56
Come on jdl, get real - Overeem wont be at final 8 so dont waste your words.

@Simoyin
You could say anything about this Carter Williams guy, but he was very good back in the day, lots of talent, but after the initial success he forgot about training, his head was in the clouds and he deteriorated as a fighter, thats his only sin. Other than that if he seriously committed himself to the sport, he could work wonders.

@Mitko J. I see that you are still high on The Guvner.
I, on the other hand, dont see him getting past the Reem. Guess we will find out in a couple of weeks who is right.

This years 16 has a big asterisk around it..Not having Badr and Remy deff takes sth away from this years WGP..Arlovski in the final 16 is a joke..what did he do in K1 do deserve that spot..even if he was the UFC, Strikeforce or K1 dream heavywieght champion a K1 fighter has to earn a spot IMHO and he didnt...why isent Ignashov there based on his recent performance and past performances, why do certain fighters get a shot at the WGP and others dont, it certainly doesnt appear that the voting matters which is a pathetic idea also. When is FEG going to realize that in order to become a legit international sport which they claim to want, on par with tennis, soccer, basketball etc. they have to have better transparency with there matchmaking, overhaul there tournament structure so all fighters earn there way to the final 16 and the final 8, so thats it is fair to all fighters.The final 16 and final 8 are supposed to be the culmination of a fighter fighting his way to be the best through the K1 tour. What a joke this year is!

BTW-sorry everybody i dont mean to take the hype away from this event, there are some good fights here but it dissapoints me how FEG operates. I hope this year is just a hiccup.

@Polakian Well, Hari, Bonjasky and Ignashov are not fully prepared so thats why they are not there.

@ cristachitza Well Im not saying FEG has anything to do with the Hari/Bonjasky situation...but on the other issues I can blame them..how do you know Ignashov was not prepared..did you hear sth?

** BTW everybody I read that there has been a change to the lineup according to Michael Schiavellos twitter..wonder who it could be..maybe Hari?
Simoyin (344 posts)

(Hari? I hope not).
I heard something about Ignashov being injured still, so he couldn´t participate. But i don´t trust these people :<

@Mitko J. Hmm i saw some old Carter fights on eurosport and he was good indeed from what i could tell. I heard he put on too much weight. It seems he wasn´t quite in shape in the Catinas-fight either, aside from the obvious ringrust he must´ve had.

wow this is gonna be soooo boring.now that the legendary badr hari isn´t there,we gonna see how spectacular the show will be.and we´ll see who can stop THE REEM
coz no one will able stop him... IMO!

Ive been thinking about Arlovski, and putting him in the final 16 is starting to have more and more sense. Arlovski is a familiar name to your average MMA fan, so this could be an attempt to attract more people to watch K1. Think about it. Its more likely that someone who never watched K1 before is going to start to watch it because he actually knows some names on the card

i am looking forward to the ruslan vs spong matchup the most, i just hope tyrone does not break his hand again!! but there is going to be an addition to the card, at least thats what schiavello said... i think they may have done this on purpose to create some more talk and anticipation.....who am i kidding this is FEG, nothing seems planned.
Polakian (252 posts)

@ Simoyin I dont trust them either

@ Stark Well its obvious why Arlovksi is in the round of 16 to attract attention, as you pointed out, however for me it takes away the credibility of the sport. Besides its not like Arlovski was tearing things up in the MMA world. He is on a 3 fight losing streak and 5-5 in his last 10 matches, and has a super suspect chin. Granted he has size, good boxing technique, generally good overall offensive skills but it wont be enough IMHO. So what do they gain? From the MMA fan perspective if he somehow wins it makes k1 fighters look average, if he loses he wasnt a top 10 MMA heavyweight anyway. Im all for giving him a super fight to see how things go, but taking a spot from a fighter who has paid his dues..hmmm
