After recent action in both the MAX and HW Grand Prix, let's take a look at the updated fields for the 2010 Grand Prix Finals.
FINAL 16
1. Semmy Schilt (2009 Grand Prix Champion)
2. Badr Hari (2009 Finalist)
3. Alistair Overeem (2009 Semi-Finalist)
4. Remy Bonjasky* (2009 Semi-Finalist)
5. Jerome Le Banner (2009 Quarter Finalist)
6. Errol Zimmerman (2009 Quarter Finalist)
7. Ruslan Karaev (2009 Quarter Finalist)
8. Ewerton Teixeira (2009 Quarter Finalist)
9. Kyotaro (Heavyweight Champion)
10. Freddy Kemayo (East Europe GP Champion)
11. Ben Edwards (Oceania GP Champion)
12. TBA (Asia GP Japan)
13. TBA (TBA Qualifying GP)
14. TBA (Wild Card)
15. TBA (Wild Card)
16. TBA (Wild Card)
Five slots remain open. At least two should be filled by qualifying tournaments - one in Asia and one other yet to be named (though I would imagine it will be in Japan). Konstantin Gluhov has qualified for one of this tournaments. For the other three wild cards, both Gokhan Saki and Ray Sefo are leading candidates for slots at this point. Other names to consider in the GP picture are Peter Aerts and Daniel Ghita.
Finally, Remy Bonjasky is a bit of a question mark. The rumors have died down a bit, but there has been serious talk of Remy retiring this year and perhaps not taking part in the GP.
Switching gears, here is how MAX is shaping up so far:
MAX FINAL 8
1. Albert Kraus (2009 Quarter-Finalist; defeated Nakajima)
2. Yuichiro Nagashima (Japan GP Champion; defeated Dida)
3. Yoshihiro Sato (defeated Yamamoto)
4-8. TBD in European leg of Final 16
MAX FINAL 16 (Remaining)
7. Giorgio Petorsyan (2009 GP Champion)
8. Andy Souwer (2009 Finalist)
9. Artur Kyshenko (2009 Quarter-Finalist)
10. Su Hwan Lee (Wild Card)
11. Mo Khamal (West Europe GP Champion)
12. Vitaly Horkou (East Europe GP Champion)
13. Michal Glogowski (Wild Card)
14. Chahid Oulad El Hadj (Wild Card) OR Gago Drago (2009 Quarter-Finalist)
15. Buakaw Por. Pramuk (2009 Semi-Finalist) OR Pajonsuk (Wild Card)
16. TBA (Wild Card)
Great, but my guess is that its gonna be Schilt
again. Now lets face it: Remy and Jerome have
proved that they have no way against him, Badrs
tactic doesnt seem to work on him anymore, so if we
are going to have a decent WGP, it would be best if
Schilt got eliminated in the final 16. But that way
we risk having Arista or Bada eliminated. I think
that K-1 this year should make the matches wisely
and on purpose instead of on lottery and put Schilt
against Gerges in the final 16 and against Arista
in the quarter-finals.
@Mitko J. I also think
Schilt is gonna take it once more. But I dont agree
with your point of view in trying to eliminate him
as soon as possible. I dont have a problem with the
fact that the best fighter wins the title. And
especially the way he won last year; that was
spectacular. Maybe the only way of preventing Schilt to win the title this year will be to make him be the doorman at the stadium, and let him tell Hari that he cant come in ....:D
I think JLB should not be there...just my opinion
And what has Chahid Oulad El Hadj done to deserve
the spot in the max final 16?
it´s badr hari´s time now , and gues what, for
many years to come
mosab the jaguar amrani should have been in the max
final 16
@D-rop I wouldnt say "best", but
biggest with extraordinary agility and
coordination for the size. And I still want him out
early on because the tournament might miss on the
thrill factor. For example, last WGP JLB would give
his best if he was drawn against anyone else, but
you could hear him say to himself "Oh shi(l)t" when
he saw who he was gonna fight. What if this year
Schilt gets to fight Ruslan or Edwards - would it
be any fun? It would be like you or I fought a
13-year-old.And about the doorman stuff - I dont believe a human exists that can beat Schilt out of the ring (on the street).
badr will take it this time even is semmy will be
there!
@sam
Badr wont take it even if Schilt was a doorman.
@D-rop Amen!!It simply, best fighter win, and the best fighters and the fighters that deserve it, must be in the final 16. I didnt like Schilt but he did very good last year and I liked his 3 fights. The final against Hari was spectacular by both sides. One day he will be over and then other fighters will win against him and then the Schilt Era will be over. Nowadays he is the king of the k1 ring!!
badaaaaar
haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrriiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii
iiiiiiiii
if shilt meet hari .hari willl loose again.
he has no element of surprise.
I was just thinking, maybe this years GP will be a
total failure. There is no sign of Karaev whole
year, (speaking of which, Soroush , where are
you?), Bonjasky participation is questionable, and
I do hope that Badr will leave the foxhole and turn
up.Thats three already. With latest disputes between
Alistair and Dream maybe he will drop out as
well. And of course someone might get hurt and not
participate.I hope for the best.
@hicham Are you serious? What I meant was that I am so glad that we have a lot of reasonable and intelligent members here who often give very interesting comments.
This comment of yours was just an exception to this rule (I think). Probably it was necessary to shout out the name of your idol at that moment.
@D-rop i think that hicham can
write what he wants????you would be happy if he wrote SEMMMMMMMMMMYYYYYYY SCHILLLLLLT i guess...
I wonder what what will become of Ignashov. I want
him to be there, and i dont think anyone could fill
his spot or be an adequate replacement - i dont
think "he has had his chance" like some others. But
i also know that there are others who might deserve
the spot more. So i have a bit of a
personality-split with this oneBut certainly if Bonjasky is out, Iggy should get his place.
@sam Yeah, you got me
there ... that would make the difference ...
Of course everybody is free to post whatever he/she
wants. Let there be no doubt about that.(that means that I am also free to comment on your comment)
I am sorry, hicham. Maybe I overreacted a little bit.
@D-rop what difference are you talking about
collegue????????when i googled both names and i saw wikipedia...I FOUND THIS:
SEMMY SCHILT:82 fights-61wins-31by knockout-19 losses(MMA&KICKBOXING)
BADR HARI:88fights-76wins-62by knockout-11losses(JUST KICKBOXING)
@D-rop you see now why hicham has
tipped BADDRRRRRRR HARIIIIIIIIIIIII????
@sam Yes man, things like
that were typed before the 2008 and 2009 WGPs as
well.
VIVE LE MAROC VIVE BADR YOU ARE THE
WINNERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
LOLLLLLLLL what the xxx is going on guys :D we are
going a little bit childish over here maybe the
post effect of summer :D:D:D it s funny but also
the comments against it :DAnd yes ive seen our old friend Soroush lately presenting at another fighting site i m a little bit sorry he s gone because i think this site has by far the best members so thats it.
Semmy Schilt is Semmy Schilt . Yes it s an intelligent opinion i see you may say but thats it. What i really hope is that FEG will still survive by the time he lose his belt :D he is somewhat which can be very VERY hardly won over. I hope Badr will be able to do it, but there are too many IFs in his case :D IF he will be back IF he will be normal IF he stays in control should i continue ? He is still my favorite fighter but he will be out soon if he carries on like this, maybe he is already out who knows...
We need new faces new talents to discuss, I want to see Brice Guidon, I want to see Tarik El Idrissi and many many more younger fighters. It will be the 3rd year with the SAME final 8!!! it s boring like this. I hope FEG realises this and seek new talents who are also good for the media to talk about.
By the way what about our good old Ruslan?
