Simon Rutz makes a stunning announcement!

This afternoon was the press conference for the big day everybody has been waiting for, the Its Showtime Amsterdam ArenA 2010 event. And Simon Rutz made quit an impact here with a special announcement.

Its Showtime is known for its incredible line-ups and spectacular presentation. Now they are taking things to the next level. For some time now, Simon Rutz was talking about a big announcement he was going to make on the day of the press conference and what an impact it would have. He was not lying, let me tell you.

The man responsible for lifting kickboxing events in Europe to greater heights has taken steps towards a new goal. Rutz announced Its Showtime will be holding their own Heavyweight Tournaments with a Final 16 Elimination and a Final 8 tournament as a follow-up. And not only that, there will be a complete 70max division as well, with its own elimination and final8.

The names of fighters participating so far.

For Heavyweight: Badr Hari, Errol Zimmerman, Gökhan Saki, Tyrone Spong, Melvin Manhoef, Alexy Ignashov, Daniel Ghita, Dzevad Poturak, Mourad Bouzidi, Rico Verhoeven, Thomas Hron, Rusti Kreshnik, Paul Slowinski, Hesdy Gerges and two yet to be determined fighters.
For 70MAX: Giorgio Petrosyan, Panjonsuk, Andy Souwer, Gago Drago, William Diender , Artur Kyshenko and a few other yet to be determined fighters.

With such a decision and such great fighters on the card, Its Showtime is definitely taking a swing at the current K1 tournament and its organization. Which seems to have difficulty as it is due to financial struggles. It was no surprise that Its Showtime was growing faster and faster and would someday compete with the K1. But no one expected it to be this soon. However, the events are scheduled in such a way in which they do not overlap with any K1 tournaments.
For instance the Heavyweight Final 16 will be held the 5th of March in 2011 and the Final 8 will be in May 2011. With that in mind you can say that Simon Rutz is trying to live side by side with the K1 organization rather than take over the market. But with the steady growth Its Showtime has been having the last couple of years, one might wonder what will happen in the next 5 years if the original K1 host keeps having these financial issues. Perhaps today we have seen the first big steps of what might become the biggest kickboxing organization in the world.

You might think this has a bad influence on the K1, but as long as these two organizations can co-exist and work together, we as fans are in for some very awesome tournaments.. And a lot too!

Rob, I am sorry that I posted the other article just a bit before yours ... If I had known you were busy doing this, I wouldnt have done it.
Now I can delete the other article, but there are quite a few comments already, so I think Id better not do that.

Just for the record: your article is better and gives more information.

@Cdn Mongoose And thats not all...I got word that they are planning to hold a number of 14 (!!!) events next year!!! (Regional and international) So you dont have to wait 2-3 months for the next event. Now if they can pull this off, it is a great step forward and will help promote the sport even more. Plus they will find new talent a lot quicker. They should start thinking of a slogan: Its ShowTime, All the Time.. ;-)

@szanpan The article is posted now ;-) But concerning your need for a video of the pressconference...I think in time Its Showtime will post the two videos they showed us in which the whole tournament idea is explained. They did not elaborate too much on it themselves, the videos were clear enough on their own.

The focus is also on that the community should be totally user driven, with the users as main writers of content. Who would for example write a better fight report than a fan who actually was at the fight? Or who could write a more interesting fighter profile than the fan who loves and really knows about a fighter?
