K-1 West Europe GP Announced

Semmy Schilt will bring his knees to Germany on June 5. Semmy Schilt will bring his knees to Germany on June 5.

The latest addition to the 2010 Grand Prix schedule has been announced.  On June 5, K-1 will hold a Heavyweight West Europe GP in Dortmund, Germany.  Winner of the 8 man tournament here will qualify for the Final 16.  While none of the 8 tournament fighters have yet been announced, there are 3 super fights already set:

Semmy Schilt v. Karl Glischynski
Kyotaro v. Chalid "Die Faust" Arrab
Gokhan Saki v. Kreiskott Werner

No indication if Schilt and Kyotaro's titles will be on the line here, though I would guess they will not.

Gliscgynski is a German fighter with a record of 52-19-4.  At 116kg he'll still be giving up size to Schilt, but not as much as most opponents.  Werner is a Thai stylist fighting out of the solid Fight Club Wuppertal in Germany.  As for Die Faust, he likely needs no introduction to longtime K-1 fans, though he has not been around for some time.  This is his first fight since September 2008, at which time he was riding a four fight losing streak.  Tough comeback fight to be sure.  As we said yesterday, it's great to see Japanese fighters competing in Europe and not limiting themselves to the main K-1 cards as they have often done in the past.

One important note - this is just one week after the May 29 show where Saki will face Melvin Manhoef.  Manhoef is a very dangerous opponent to face just one week before another fight, and with Saki just yesterday confirmed for that Manhoef fight, I would not be shocked to see him drop out of this fight at some point.

The best K-1 community online!

The focus is on building a community that offers more to the users than any other K-1 website. The focus is also on that the community should be totally user driven, with the users as main writers of content. Who would for example write a better fight report than a fan who actually was at the fight? Or who could write a more interesting fighter profile than the fan who loves and really knows about a fighter? We believe that this approach will lead to that fansofk1.com has the most interesting K-1 information.
