Interview: Hesdy Gerges, 27 february, 2010.

Interesting interview with up and coming top fighter Hesdy "Fightersheart" Gerges. Source: fighttalk. Translated from Dutch.

Introduction:

A fighter who was in the center of attention lately is Hesdy Gerges, which isnt surprising after he stopped various opponents, After he took place against Sem Schilt at the final moment last year (and stood all 3 rounds), Gerges got the respect he deserved, internationally. After that fight, he demolished Ruslan Karaev and showed to be ready for the real work. Various organizations are trying to get Gerges to fight and Gerges chose for Blacklabel Fighting. They achieved to arrange a great match against noone else but Badr Hari at Amsterdam Showtime in may 2010.

Q: You grew enormously as a fighter in the last 2 years. How come?

A: I changed my training and lost some weight to get more speed, which Thom Harinck intended. I am fast for a heavyweight. I also statred power training at Rayen Bindraban from Reat. Rayen gave me a diet we did a lot of explosive and power training. My body is stronger now and I am more explosive. Thom Harinck sharpened my techniques and got me in the right direction, but we are far from ready. I try to get better every day, which is why it is top sports.

Q: At your school there are many top level fighters. What is your secret?

A: Our secret is our spirit, the will to fight and win. That is the power of Chakuriki. If you are open, Thom can give you the strength you need. That is the source of my success; listening to my trainer, who said I had it in me, while others gave up on me as a fighter. Thom gave me the strength to continue and to prove I have it in me and with success. That is the power of our school.

Q: For a while it looked as if you didnt get the chance, but suddenly there it was. Can you explain that?

A: Persistance I guess, and will. I wanted it so badly and if you really want it, it will come. I knew they couldnt ignore me if I went on like this. Victories against Karaev, Slowinski and the fight against Schilt did help of course.

Q: You just signed a contract with Remon from BLF and they do your management now. What do they add for you and why did you choose them?

A: I did choose them and I am very happy with that choice. What they offer is a chance to fight on the greatest events and they get me on tv which is important for a fighter. They make sure that everybody hears my name and get sponsors. In Holland, people know me all right, but it was time to meet the rest of the world. With BLF, I will. As management, they are fair, strong and I made the best choice.

Q: How do you look against the coming fight against Badr Hari? Is it a breakthrough fight? Or is it a normal fight like any other?

A: Its not a real breakthrough, because I am already breaking through. But it is a step higher and I am fighter the top now. I am in the mood for it and cant wait. But I have other fights before that one, so it is one more match.

Q: Your trainer also trained Badr Hari. Does that make a difference? Is it an (dis)advantage? Are you defending your school?

A: Its no difference to me. It is just a match and Badr has left a long while ago. I dont think that every match is ment to protect the name of your school.

Q: How did you experience the fight against Schilt? If you had more time to prepare, would it have been different?

A: I experienced it as something great. After that I was sure of it and it motivated me a lot. I want to be there and things go the way they go. I dont know if more time to prepare would have mattered. A lot of people prepare more and still lose, so you can never be sure. I know I did good and we shall probably meet again later.

Q: How were the reactions from K-1? Will you return to K-1?

A: Reactions were good and people saw the spirit and will to fight. K-1 loves that. I have no plans yet but I might get a chance to show myself there later this year. If we keep training and winning, than you will see me there. I just turned 26 and plans are to keep fighting for 9 more years at least. There is no hurry and things will come.

Q: What are your plans for the future?

A: To give the fight fans a good time with my matches and to show them what real fighting is. I love the sport and anjoy fighting in the ring and everything that comes with it. My future is bright the way I am going now. After that, we will see. See whats on my bank account. (laughs)

Q: Do you have a message to the fans?

A: Yes. I thank everybody who supports and trusts me. I wont disappoint you and will show all I got in all my matches.

Osu!!!!

The best K-1 community online!

The focus is on building a community that offers more to the users than any other K-1 website. The focus is also on that the community should be totally user driven, with the users as main writers of content. Who would for example write a better fight report than a fan who actually was at the fight? Or who could write a more interesting fighter profile than the fan who loves and really knows about a fighter? We believe that this approach will lead to that fansofk1.com has the most interesting K-1 information.
