Results from the event and short fightreports will be posted here as soon as the event starts

Reservfight

Peter Aerts Vs Ghokan Saki  Winner Peter Aerts decision R3

Aerts scored a down in the second round, straight right. Saki got up and was saved by the bell. Saki did not have the power or stammina to even out the fight and Aerts took a well deservd decision win after three rounds.

 Quarterfinals

Badr Hari Vs Ruslan Karaev - Winner Badr Hari TKO Round 1

First 5 seconds are slow, then, wild hooks from both fighters, Badr connects first and Ruslan goes down. Ruslan gets up and the doctor checks a cut. The fight starts again and Badr boms Ruslan with more punches and gets him with a right, Ruslan is once again downed and the referee stops the fight.

Alistair Overeem vs. Ewerton Teixeira - Winner Overeem KO Round 1

After a slow start Overeem worked his way close to Ewerton and first landed a knee to Ewertons midsection and then clinched and landed a brutal left knee to the head. Ewerton got knocked out cold! Impressive and fast win for Overeem

Jerome Le Banner vs. Semmy Schilt - Winner Schilt Round 1 TKO

Walk in the park for Schilt, two downs due to mid kicks, JLB did not look good at all.

Errol Zimmerman vs. Remy Bonjasky - Winner Remy Bonjasky Decsion

Zimmerman got knocked down in the first by a right hand from Remy, in the second Zimmerman pressed Remy but could not pass Remy`S tight defence. In the third Remy was very passive and Zimmerman threw alot of combos but still most of the attacks ended up up Remys super tight defence.

SUPERFIGHT

Daniel Ghita vs. Sergei Kharitonov - Winner Ghita KO Low kicks Round 3

Ghita used low kicks during the whole fight, ALOT of low kicks. Kharitonov did not look comfortable under K-1 rules and has a very bad almost non excisting guard. Ghita controlled the fight and did massive damage of damage with his low kicks, Kharitonov used solid boxing and landed a few bif punches. At the start of the third the fight came to a end as Ghita moved in with more low kicks and Kharitonov could no longer stand up.

Semi-final

Badr Hari Vs Alistair Overeem - Winner Badr Hari TKO Round 1

To toe to exchange in the midpart of the first results in a down as Badr connects twice with his right hand, Overeem got up and put under much pressure. Moments later Badr forced Overeem in to the corner and landed a lovley left high kick to the head of the monster Overeem and the TKO was a fact!

Semi-final

Semy Schilt Vs Remy Bonjasky - Winner Sem Schilt TKO Round 1

Remy landed a suprising left at the bell of the first and scored a down. Sem got up and pressed Remy orderly. Moments later Remy got caught in the corner and was downed. Remy whent up on 8 but to no use as Sem downed him once again.

SUPERFIGHT

Kyotaro vs. Tyrone Spong - Winner Tyrone Spong decision

Not the most dramatic fight.. Kyotaro used his usall hit and runn tactic and Spoong hunted him around the ring.

FINAL Badr Hari Vs Sem Schilt - WINNER AND NEW CHAMPION

SEMMY SCHILT! BY TKO ROUND 1

Badr put up the pace and pressured Schilt imeditaly and was close to land a couple of big punches but it was Semmy that scored the down with a numb left jab. Badr got up but whent down again after beeing hit by a sneaky karate kick to the head from Semmy. Once again Badr got up and showed big heart but he was moments later stoped again as Semmy connected with a mid toekick and the TKO was a fact.

Congratz to Sem Schilt

Daniel, thanks for also writing a summary. How was the Peter Aerts match? Did he do very well or was he a bit lucky? I missed it :(

@Nabil, arts looked very fatiged, the pace was not that high and saki did not impresse me at all. Saki used low kicks and Aerts more powerfull technics. Solid win

I THINK ONE OF THE BEST FINALS OF ALL THE TIME:
1. HARI INCREDIBLE HIS 2 FIRST FIGHTS, JUST KILL MACHINE, JUST UNSTOPABLE. REVENGE AGAINST ALISTAIR. HIS ARBITRARINESS TACTIC WAS DESTROYED BY SCHILT... HE DESERVE TO BE THE CHAMPION
2. BONJASKY KNOCKING DOWN ERROL AND SCHILT!!¡¡ WITH HIS PUNCHES. REALLY TRY TO BE AGRESSIVE AGAINST SCHILT, BUT HE HAD A HARD FIGHT AGAINST ERROL IN HIS BACK. SCHILT WAS LIKE NEW.
3. SCHILT REVENGE AGAINST HARI. SCHILT DID HIS JOB.
4. DISAPPOINTED WITH JEROME LEBANNER....
5. LOT OF 1 ROUNDS K.O.
6. RUSLAN GOING ALL IN, 0% FEAR ITS FUNNY

such a deception ... for hari.
And what about bonjasky. Great fighter but he seems out of date.
Karaev great too. But i m very scared for him. So much brutal KOs... I can't remember afight which ending well for him

Yeah three round against zimmerman and a shadow against schilt
Now he needs a third match with hari and perhaps a revenge against overeem
But he 's still

I m so so so so SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOo SAD and i m crying it was incredible what Badr did it was GREAT I wanted him to be the champ he deserved it so much but i think he won it because he koed Overeem. It was too much for him to face Schilt in the end i m so so so so sorry and i m really curious if he will stay in K-1 after this. It could have been his year and he reached such a level in fighting which is above human almost. Oh i m so so so sad but i m also happy he made his promise and koed Overeem. After all he had the hardest battles I think

AND YES IT S ONE OF THE EVER BEST FINALS IN FACT THE BEST FINALS I HAVE EVER SEEN HERE WE REALLY SAW BATTLES NOT JUST SPORT: POOR BADR I THINK IT WAS HIS SOUL TOOK AWAY HIS CONCENTRATION HE WANTED TO WIN SO SO HARD HE WOULD HAVE DESERVED IT SO SO MUCH OH ..

As i cant quote all comes in one now, yes Aerts is not in a good shape but somehow Saki managed to be in an even worse shape :D I Also to add, this tournament was surprisingly very short, all fights ended in the first round. I was happy Spong won over Kyotaro he is a good fighter really, and I wasnt surpried how wast Badr won over Ruslan, it s funny he said he is smarted not to offend all the time but he did exaclty the same he did before so that s how it ended. I still couldnt fight the Remy- Zimmerman fight but i think Remy has never been KOed in such manner as this ) or maybe last year? :) only that time he had an excuse now he didnt.Excellent fights anyway i cant wait for next years tournament to start.

This was indeed a very exciting tournament. Is it just me, or did the intensity seem to be higher than in recent years?

Anyway, congrats to Semmy Schilt. That was a dominant WGP performance, no doubt about it. He deserved to be the champion this year.

Hari did great too. I'm happy that he got his revenge against Overeem, and defended K1's "honor" in the process. His loss to a 3-time WGP champion in the finals is nothing to be ashamed of (I think nobody could have stopped Schilt last night; he looked like a man on a mission, with something to prove). The loss will only motivate Hari to improve even more, and come back stronger than before. He will be a K1 WGP champ in the future, no doubt about it.

Great tournament! Lots of tension between a lot of fighters. High number of KO's. And a big turn around in the Final.
The only downside was Aerts didn't got in haha
BTW...what was Semmy's time this tournament? Any faster than Aerts??
K1Fan (846 posts)
Posted: 2009-12-06 at: 12:31
Yes Ibelieve it was faster, around a minute faster I think.

Posted: 2009-12-06 at: 08:14
Sick! That's fast haha
Well records are there to be broken. I wonder how long this one will hold...
The whole tournament was crazy with almost every fight ending in a 1st round KO...unbelievable, but oh so sweet hehe

If Badr would have won, thhe record would be even faster,

Why do people say Semmy is Boring....? High kick to the head...

JLB should never fight in K-1 again.....

Wanted to see more fights

FEG needs to speed up fighter entrances. The live event took 30 minutes to see the first action

wink
@ Cnd Mongoose:
You're a lucky basterd for being able to watch this fantastic event live .... and now you're complaining about the fighters entrances????
You should stay with 'just' internet, like me. I haven't seen any entrances at all. :)
