Joakim Engberg own and runs GBG MMA since 2004 and is a very talented and driven fighter who has a professional career in MMA. He trains fighters such as Alistair Overeem in the ground game a couple times a year. And it's precisely that which his strength is. Last time we saw him was in the K-1 event in Norrköping, 27/2 2009, where Joakim Engberg quickly got Kevin Reed on the ground. Kevin Reed had a good lock which made it difficult for Joakim Engberg to punch him. Kevin Reed dodged out of many approaches and Joakim Engberg tactic was to tire him out. Joakim Engberg is known to be very good on ground and this, he showed this evening. He came loose and sent a heavy punch to Kevin Reed who was at the back. Blow to the ribs were awarded and the match was settled when Joakim Engberg got his arms around Kevin Reeds throat. Winner: Joakim Engberg, 2.20 Round 1 due to rear naked choke. ![]()

After the match Joakim Engberg said that everything went according to plan. Kevin Reed is an old boxer and Joakim Engberg tactic was to tire him out. The match was quickly settled, but it was entertaining and we saw that Joakim Engberg and his team really appreciated this evening. Total joy and Joakim Engberg really wanted to win this match.
What is in store next for Joakim Engberg is likely Strike & Submit & Caged Steel April 26 in England and also the K-1 event in Sweden which coming up next.
