Remy Bonjasky VS Badr Hari (Final)
K-1 World GP Final 2008
Indeed it seems like a nice piece of acting by
Bonjasky. On the other hand it was well deserved
DSQ. Great event with shity ending... Damn :(
Exactly my thought: Remy was acting, You could see
him think: I can stand up and fight and he will
probably kick my ass or I keep sitting here and see
what the rev is going to say.Non the less the DSQ was indeed deserved.
Terrible, dissappointing ending to a great final
tournament. Badr should be deeply ashamed of
himself. What anti-sportmanship he showcased there
.. Discipline is in my opinion an essential part of
muay thai/kickboxing, or any martial art for that
matter. My respect for him is gone..
what a fool..no respect...still the "badboy"
w'll all now he is, but this is the most
interesting and weird final in years.
will we see Badr in MMA now? he has surtainly made
a good opening for himself there.
Bonjasky make me a little biy more rich now!
kickbets etcbut Remy! dont play girl if it is not so... okay?
you are one of me 2 favorites. so pleas... i hope that he did hurt you alot.
other wise i will change to Badr!!!!
"I believe that you are hurt"!
Yeh! Daniel have a point, that was my first
reaction aswell=)
Hari made a big mistake and Remy took an advantage
of this obviously...Remy is a smart fighter and I
can´t blame him for his action. Anyway I´m sure
he didn´t want to win this way. I hope to see a
superfight soon, once for all
I think that you can blame Remy for this action. He
was probably fully fit to continiue to fight, but
he decide to take the easy way out and robbed all
of the fans on the final fight. The fight would
have continiued if he would have said that he
wanted to.IMO the fight should have been stopped at once, Badr should have been disqualified imedietly cause then this situation could never have happend. IMO this now seems more like an No constest then an disqualification.
I agree with your last point Daniel. Like I said in
a comment in your Live-report, The judges should
have made the decision. But have I seen another fight than everybody else?? Has nobody seen the nasty kick in the face of Remy when he was down?? How can you say for sure that he can fight on, and is acting??
Johan my friend he sad that Remy would win on
pionts anyway. because he give a count to Hari in
the first round, and second Hari get a yellow
card.GOOD DAY to you all K-1 fans out there!!
Totally agree with Daniel that the ref should stop
the fight immediately due to disqualification. This
was not a pretty sight even though the ref might
have good intentions, but instead it made Remy look
weak and Hari as a true warrior.
The sadest end of a great tournament :( Im glad i
like k1 max more. The mentality seems a bit
different with those fighters in a positive way, or
is it just in my head?
I don't see the reason why Remy should stand up
and fight (only Rocky Balboa would act this way).
This should be a DSQ from the beginning and if Remy
had to act to get the obvious and right decision, I
am fine with it.
Everything about badr as a fighter is
amazing........except!!!! is extreme glass jaw!!!!
all 3 of his opponents proved that he has a weak
chin!
Also good bit of acting from remy hahaha. But i did
not lose respect for him at all.... i lost respect
for badr hari! he doesn't act like the champion
he wants to be he acts like a challenger or less,
he shows extremely bad sportsmanship and deserved
what he got. The sad thing is he could have won
this fight, no problem.
I would have rather seen Remy knocked out than lay
down like he did. I have until now been a fan of
Remy and followed his career from when he was a
poor immigrant to Holland. He has let us all down.
Further, KIA the car manufacturer which sponsors
Hari, is considering withdrawal of their support
for him. They have stated that his poor
sportsmanship has reflected badly on their company.
K1 is a spectator sport and the rules were designed
to maximise the spectator's enjoyment.
Hari's performance has, of course, put shame on
the sport of K1.
I have to agree with most of you. Hari should have been disqualified from the beginning. And Bonjasky shouldn't have acted like he did. Both were wrong, but Hari is he real loser of the night. At least I can understand Bonjasky's reaction, not that I approve!
But Hari's actions are purely frustration. Anyone has the right to be frustrated, I mean Hari was well on his way to becoming the champion, but then Bonjasky downed him. Hari said he was frustrated because of his constant defence. (Pretty strange coming from a fighter who scores most of his KO's by being the counterpuncher...) But don't let the frustration take over like that...pff such a disgrace for the sport!
I haven't looked forward to the GP Final like this in years...only to have it be the biggest anticlimax ever! I would have rather had Schilt win it one more time than this childish behaviour.
@KimA superfight rematch!! What an idea haha... that should cause some excitement. Wonder what that press conference would be like ;)
I can't even pick a side at this moment, since I am still disgusted by both of them.
Good pts. by all!IMO Remy was frustrating Badr with his great guard and the knockdown .This caused the old emotional Badr to comeback and he lost his cool in a tense situation for him with everything at stake. This is clear to me. The sad part is badr could have lost, yes but he also had a great chance to win and we will never know now. I think as fans we can be upset at both of them, but Badr especially for instigating it. Maybe he needs contoversy to keep him motivated. He clearly showed he is not ready to be champion!
However we can be upset at Remy too! He had a great chance to to solidify himself as a great champion and garner all the respect that I know he desires 4 and eliminate the doubts and lack of respect for his previous 2 titles when the level of talent was diminished. As a sportsman you would hope he would choose this over money, but he didnt! I also believe he could have continued. He through away a great chance of sth u cant buy and thats respect!
They tarnished the sport and this great event K1 WGP 2008 that forever will have an asterisk beside it. Shame on them!
I think what you say is right Polakian. If Remy
would have stand up and fought on, he would earned
a lot of respect by showing he has the real will to
fight. But he acted (in both ways) like he always
does. Bonjasky always said that after K1 he wanted to be in the movies. Is he practicing for this already? Because if his acting doesn't approve, there are gonna be some empty seats in the movietheatres.
Most people are all over Bonjasky, because of
'acting' and 'faking'. Nobody knows
how hurt or injured he was because of the attack of
Hari. If I get a stomp in the face when I'm on
the ground, I think I'll stay down the rest of
the day ... And if I'm sure to get $ 400000,
I'll stay there for a week :=)Fact is that Hari injured our sport! He ruined the Final. And I was looking forward to it soooo much. Up till that moment, the event was great! But then ... And he doesn't even feel sorry (read the post-fight comments).
But still, most people are blaming Bonjasky ...... I can't understand that.
Remy had all the right to get out of continuing the
fight - he took a stomp to the head after all. He
deserved a little time to recover if not the option
to postpone the fight. Look at it in slow-motion,
while taking the head stomp his neck snapped and
his head hit the ground, quite harsh actually.
Ofcourse Hari was wrong. I think people are all
over Remy because we kind of expected this from
Badr, I mean we call him Bad Boy for a
reason!I must say first I wasn't sure if he could continue the fight, but when I watched the fight again... believe me he could! Ofcourse it was a smart choice not to...I think Badr would have knocked him out. But if Remy would stand up and fight, today he would be the HERO of K1, even if he had lost! And Badr would be the bad guy, even if he won.
The point were I really got a nasty taste was the interview Remy gave after the fight in Dutch, he told SBS about how Badr didn't play by the rules etc etc and the smiled and laughed " Well at least I got 400.000 dollars"
Well Remy, thank you for your sportmanship! You just reached Badr's level.
And thanks to that Badr didn't look so bad after all! Badr should be happy that Remy stayed in his corner, it was the only thing that could make Badr look good after completely loosing it.
As some others has been touching earlier I think
the K-1 referee is a big problem in this drama.
Clearly what Hari did is enough to disqualify him,
so he should have been disqualified directly. That
would have eliminated all this detabe. Now K-1 got
a champion that everyone looks down at because of
his assumed acting.
I´m 100 % with you on this one, Dennis
Dennis & D-Rop im not blaming Bonjasky 4 this
incident, I jsut feel that he could have
continued. If that was Aerts or Sefo do u think
they would have not continued? They would have got
back up and demanded to fight whether a ref
disqualified Hari or not. This sport is about
technical fighting skills and athleticism but also
about spirit and fighting will even in the face of
adversity. Remy is not to blame here, and Dennis
your right about the ref he should have dq'd
Hari, but Remy jsut had a chance to show why he is
a k1 fighter and whats it all about. Think of Peter
when he fought Hoost at the last minute when Sapp
didnt fight.Or when Sefo fought Hug and was badly
hurt but just kept waving him on. This could have
been one of those moments but Remy didnt let it
happen, he took the easy way. If he was really so
hurt i apologize to him but if not.....
@JanineYou made some good point concerning Bonjasky.
If he would ‘ve stand up and showed fighting spirit, he would have earned a great deal of respect. Even if he lost the fight, he gave Hari an eight count, so was doing well on points. Plus it would have focused more on Hari being the bad guy, instead of this scenario were both fighters made some strange choices. Now some people praise Hari for his fighting spirit, while it could have been Bonjasky.
You also thought his interview left a nasty taste. I have this with almost all his interviews on Dutch television. When these interviews are being translated and people read them, they don’t get the undertone that comes with it. Every time he’s on TV I have to get a “teiltje” ;)
@Dennis
I understand your opinion of the referee, but read again what the organization had to say about this. It was the GP Final, so their intention was to give a red card, but they wanted to find out whether Remy wanted to fight. It would be a shame if Remy wanted to continue, but they wouldn’t let him. So at first I didn’t understand this decision either, it should have been a red card immediately. But when they explained, it all made sense.

Brrrr...that kick from Leko still gives me
nightmares. I remember watching that fight and
actually feeling sick myself. I don't know how
much of that incident was fake or real, but it
looked pretty real to me :S ...ouch!
@Rob: I sort of agree with you, but if the referees
would have given the red card imideately, we would
have not needed the discussion wether Remy was
acting or not. And that I believe would have been
better for K-1 (and Remy).
That's true. The discussion would then be about
the red card and not Remy. It would have made a lot
of difference. Personally I wonder what it would have been like if Remy lost it completely, just go fully mentally pissed after that kick haha. What would that have been like? That's a side of Remy you don't see every day. I mean he had all right to be mad. No instead he cried ;)
It's tough crying your way to 400 000$. ;-)
