Within 5 hours we will know who the new champ is,, follow all the drama and read the latest results here on fansofk1 in this years live report from the K-1 WGP Final event!

The opening ceremony is over, all of the fighters looked extremely sharp and motivated. Remy trew kisses to his fans and LeBanner looked like he was ready to destroy the whole world... THIS IS GONNA BE ONE HELL OF AN EVENT!!!

 Fight #1 : K-1 WORLD GP 2008 Quarter Final #1 : K-1 Rules / 3Min. 3R Ext. 1R

Peter Aerts                 Vs                  Bar Hari

WINNIER!!! Badr Hari with 1:21 left of the second round RSC!

Badr destroyed Aerts, no question about it. Badr`s boxing lead the way to an early knockdown in the first round, Aerts never recovered and in the second round the Referee stopped the fight. Aerts looked more like an logg then an lumberjack and Badr will move on to the Semifinals totally undamaged.

 Fight #2 : K-1 WORLD GP 2008 Quarter Final #2 : K-1 Rules / 3Min. 3R Ext. 1R

 Errol Zimmerman   Vs    Ewerton Teixeira

Winner 3R Decision Errol Zimmerman.  2-0

Teixeira won the first round rather clear, being the more precise and more explosive fighter, in the second round Zimmerman connected with some of his hard punches and Ewerton looked some what shaken in the end of the second. In the end of the third round ( 2:40) Zimmerman connects with an rather sloppy right uppercut, but it takes Ewerton to the canvas and an eightcount is a fact. After three rounds the judges gave the fight to Errol Zimmerman 2-0. Errol will enter the Semifinals with hurting legs after not blocking any of the lowkicks from Ewerton.

 Fight #3 : K-1 WORLD GP 2008 Quarter Final #3 : K-1 Rules / 3Min. 3R Ext. 1R

 Gokhan Saki   Vs   Ruslan Karaev

Ruslan wins the first and the second round thanx to his fast boxing, Saki counters with hooks and left highkicks. Ruslan connects the most but has a bad guard and Saki counter well. in the third Saki connects with a lovely right spinning back fist and Ruslan falls to the ground. After the eight count Ruslan is shaken but fights back. Ruslan connects with the jab and Saki with the hooks. After three intense and sweaty rounds the fight goes to the scorecards, and thanx to the knockdown in the third round Saki wins the fight and moves on to the Semifinals. Saki will move on rather undamaged in the legs and the body but he has wasted alot of energy, can he reload for the Semi finals?

 Fight #4 : K-1 WORLD GP 2008 Quarter Final #4 : K-1 Rules / 3Min. 3R Ext. 1R

 Remy Bonjasky   Vs   Jerome LeBanner

Winner in Round 3 by RSC  Remy Bonjansky

The first round is close and rather slow paced. Remy connects with a flying knee and JLB with punches and left kicks. In the second JLB is much more active, Remy looks to connect with low kicks and JLB with punches and left kicks. In the tird JLB blocks alot of hard kicks with his left arm,, about half way in to the third round JLB stops fighting and gets an 8 count, its apperant that JLB has problems with his arm. The Referee/ Doctor  stops the fight beacuse if the injury. Remy would probably have won the fight by Decision if it would have gone the time out. Remy will now move on to the Semi finals, rather bruised but not beaten.

Fight #5 : Reserve Fight (1) : K-1 Rules / 3Min. 3R Ext. 1R

Hong Man Choi   Vs  Ray Sefo

Winner  by Round 3 Decision  Ray Sefo   3-0

Sefo stays at a safe distance  to Choi and looks full of confidence as he controlls the first round, even landing a spinning backfist to Choi`s head!, Sefo taunts Choi a lot and Choi doesn't do much in the first round, The second looks the same with Sefo making fast in and out attacks, and choi mostly just following Sefo around the ring not doing much damage. In the third Choi starts "hammer fisting" but Sefo avoids most of the attacks. Sefo looks tired and takes more damage in the third round then in the first and second toghter. In the last seconds of the fight Sefo connects with some punches but Choi takes them with ease. Finaly Sefo gets a new win in K-1 after six straight losses. Sefo did not absorb much damage and should be rather fresh if he would enter the tournament as a reserv fighter.

Fight #6 : Reserve Fight (2) : K-1 Rules / 3Min. 3R Ext. 1R

Paul Slowinski  Vs  Melvin Manhoef

Winner By KO Round 1  Melvin Manhoef

Two minutes in to the first round round Melvin connects with and right hook that floors Slowinski,, Slowinski gets up after an eight count and tries to fight back, but Melvin continues to connect with the hooks and once agains Slowinski gets caught hard and gets KO`d.. The lighting fast and hard hitting Melvin Manhoef wins the fight without wasting any energy and not receiving any big damage, so he will be fully fit if he would enter the tournament as a reserv.

 Fight #7 : K-1 WORLD GP 2008 Semi Final #1 : K-1 Rules / 3Min. 3R Ext. 1R

 Badr Hari    VS   Errol Zimmerman

Winner Round 3 by KO  Badr Hari

The fight start at a rather slow pace with both fighters testing the other. About 1:50 in to the first round Badr connects hard and Zimmerman moves backvards, hard toe to toe fighting starts and Badr is the more precise. In the second Badr is the more agressive controlling the fight but at 1:45 Errol connects with a long hard right and it floors Badr. Badr sits in the blue corner apparently shaken by the blow from Errol, Badr gets up at the count of eight and the fight continues, Errol puts on the pressure trying to finish the fight but then at 2:57 Badr connects and floors Errol!! Errol gets back up and the second round ends!In the third its once again Badr that connects the most, and at about 2 min in to the second round Badr once again is faster then Errol and Badr connects with and devestating straight right that KO`s Errol!! By far the best fight of the night 100% action and drama.. Badr moves on to the final rather fresh in the legs and body, but most likley with a bad headache after all of Zimmermans hard punches to his head.

Fight #8 : K-1 WORLD GP 2008 Semi Final #2 : K-1 Rules / 3Min. 3R Ext. 1R

Remy Bonjasky     Vs       Gokhan Saki

Winner by Round 2 KO  Remy Bonjasky

Remy controlls the center of the ring walking towards Saki, Saki is smart and counters with lowkicks, Remy gets caught alot and dosent do mutch back. saki wins the first round clear after connecting with about 30 low kicks. In the second Saki continiues to low kick, but after about 30 sec in to the second round Remy connects with an hard knee and follows up with and flying kick that hurts Saki bad. Saki falls to the canvas in massive pain and he doesn't get up. Remy wins the fight without impressing. Remy will have alot of pain in his legs as he enters the final vs Badr.

      ---------------------------------------------- Intermission ----------------------------------------------

Badr is the fighter that has impressed me the most so far, he looked amazing against Aerts, and controlled the fight vs Erroll and also managed to pull himself toghter after the knockdown. Remy has been looking slow but strong but also took alot of damage against both LeBanner and saki. Will we see the new prince of K-1 Badr Hari be crownd KING or will Remy Bonjasky win his third WGP final?.

Fight #9 : K-1 WORLD GP 2008 Final : K-1 Rules / 3Min. 3R Ext. 2R

Badr Hari   Vs    Remy Bonjasky

Winner by DSQ R 2  Remy Bonjasky

In the first round the pace is rather slow, Badr is the fighter that does the most but it aint much,, about two minutes in to the first round Remy attacks and connects with some kind of over hand left punch, the punch connects and Badr goes to the ground receiving an eight count..The second also starts up rather slow, and then suddenly Badr explodes, he attacks Remy with all his wepons kicks, punches knees, Remy answers with the same and after some hard toe to toe action both fighters fall to the canvas after some kind of leg sweep from Badr, and then No No NO !!!!  Badr kicks and beats Remy when Remy is on the ground! the fights gets stopped and Remy is apparently badly injured?. Badr gets point reduction and Remy is allowed to sit down and recover for some minutes. Remy is telling the doctor that he is badly injured by the blatant attack by Badr and unable to continue. Badr gets disqualified. Remy wins.

That was an unworthy ending to an up to that moment great event. Remy takes home his third title and is crying as he is crowned K-1 champ. Badr leavs the ring and dosen`t attend the closing cermony.

Im Sorry Sebastian im not kidding. Badr fu?kt up big time, and Remy simply acted injuried. Remy did not have one mark on his face and the ground attack that Badr did on Remy did / could / should not have been able to hurt Remy. The crowd actually seems to buuu during Remys win speach.

so said for bonjasky to win the final this way
Daniel, Sweden reporter (2501 posts)
Posted: 2008-12-06 at: 12:33
bonjasky told his fas at his "win speach" that he did not want to wins like this, but that he was simply to badly injures by Badrs attack to be able to continiue to fight. Personaly i have lost alot if not all my respect for Remy. I agree with the decision to Disquallify Badr for that attack, thats an illegal move in K-1 and alot of fighters has been Disqualified for it before.. But IMO Remy could and should have keept on fighting insted of taking the opportunity to get an simple victory.

Daniel, I haven't seen it yet, but don't you think the judges should´ve disqualified Hari BEFORE they let Remy decide if he can go on fighting?

thats a good point D-rop, i agree to
Daniel, Sweden reporter (2501 posts)
Posted: 2008-12-06 at: 12:48
from what i can understand they would have let the fight continiue if remy wanted it to. But Remy sad no so since Remy was to badly injuried the fight got stopeed and Remy won by Dsq..

K-1 no sportmanships something something in japanees.. sorry i dont / cant understand what they say in japanesse, but from what i can understand, they gave Remy 5 minutes to regain his powers and get ready to fight again. Remy did not want to fight, he feelt that he was to badly injuried. Therefor the fight got stopped and Remy won the fight on Disqualification.

Apart from the conduct of Badr
We all know that Remy was pretending .. Coz he fear of combat
but know .. what will hapen to hari ??

I don't know the exact rules, but I think it's a cowardly position of the judges.

If a fighter hits and kicks another fighter that is on the ground, he should be disqualified. No matter if the kicks and hits caused real damage.
The way the judges resolved it now, Bonjasky will get disrespect and nobody blames the judges.
Maybe Bonjasky could've continued, but maybe not. We can't judge that. You cannot always see damage.

Fact is that Hari fucked up big time ....

What a shame it ended like this .....

@ Seeadler,, im not sure,, i guess that they first of all haft to determain what actually hapend at this fight.. Should the result remian or should it be consider as an NO CONTEST? I dont think that Badr will be banned or anything like that, K-1 always forgives it`s favorite sons =)

Guys, i watched the whole event, Hari was off the hook and i thought he was gonna win against Bonjasky. However, Hari was acting a fool at the 2nd round, he punched and stomped on Bonjasky when Bonjasky was down then got a yellow card, then Hari apparently had some verbal fight with Bonjasky's team so the referee gave him a red card and disqualified him. It was shocking that I have never seen a red card in k1 before. Hari is a very very good fighter but he gotta do something with his irration. (Perhaps he is still young.) Overall, the whole event was so spectacular, all the fights were exciting.

Unbelievable! I had major support for hari going in to this then he does something like this! very direspectful! I dont care if bonjasky was lying or not,Hari punched and kicked him while they were on the ground. For those blaming bonjasky, why dont you look at Hari's actions first.

no question about it, Badr Hari is the reason that we are having this discussion, but still i cant help beeing mad at Remy for not standing up and finishing the fight, he should have done that for HIS fans, for all fans of k1 for all of the K-1 fighters in the world and most of all for K-1 it self.

What i feel is most sad after this Gp is that the only thing on our lipps is the terrible final fight, not many will remeber the fight between Errol and Badr or the fight between Errol and Teixiera, all that will be remeberd from this years final GP is that Schilt wasent there and Badr and Remy made a shame of them selves.

( from the post fight interview )

"Remy's corner was screaming at him to stay down," said a defiant Hari in his post-fight interview. "I came to fight and he didn't. He's a great actor."

I don`t care what Remy did or didn`t do. I`ll never cheer for Badr again. Never! He had the nerve to say Remy was not a "worthy champion" before their fight in 2007. Is he himself a worthy champion? Is he? Badr Hari is bad boy. And that`s all he is. I hope he never wins again.

I agree with D-rop. The judges should have immidiately disqualified Hari for his behaviour in the Final (of all places!!). Of course nobody wants a Final to end this way, so perhaps the started of with a yellow card and see what happened from there on. Hari's actions are totally unacceptable and I hope he gets severely punished for it. He lost all respect, which he had terribly difficulty with to gain in the first place with his fake ass bad boy image. He really showed you can't change yourself in the end. Disgusting attitude for a fighter. Almost makes you wish Schilt was there to kick his ass ;)
But let's not forget the other loser of the night. Bonjasky was doing well with his knockdown, but he not only won the GP, he also won a Razzy award for worst male performance...pfff did he really think anyone would buy this crap? You're a K1 Champion who can take the beating of a lifetime, but two or three blows which barely touch you, make you crawl like a baby??? Either he should gone on with he fight, or he should have made a protest of some sort and then fight. But not crawl around and then after 5 min(!!) say you're not ready to go on and then cry about winning this way. Bonjasky did have a choice to win another way, but he didn't take it.

Of course it is very hard to judge their decisions in the heat of the battle, but be that as it may... Hari and Bonjasky, the two finalist of the world's most beautiful tournament, made absolutely fools of themselves today. Both losing respect with their childish behaviour. Hari the most!

Rob a concussion can make you look okay but your balance and vision can be poor. No one knows but Remy how bad he was hurt.

What reason did Remy have to continue? He was ahead by three points and had everything to lose. If Badr did what he did down by 2 points what was next...groin shots...rabbit punches ....side kick to the knee......who knows Badr has an anger problem....

No much for the control of a martial artist...NOT.....

I know, I'm just guessing here. But it just looked fake to me. Plus taking Remy's history into account ;)
But you're right, who knows what Badr was planning next :S
I mean, it's a hard sport, but there's no need to get extra violent.

I agree with you there Cdn, Choi looked like he did 3 years ago. Last year he actually seemd to be become a better and more well rounded fighter, but here he looked like the old choi and thats not a good thing.

Choi just makes the sport look bad....

He is one of the reasons I prefer the Max although the WGP finals this year was great. Great fights ....big knockouts....I enjoyed it thoroughly .......Cdn beer, Bbq....all in the early morning here live......although think the people next door thought we were a little loud...
